reminds me of a PC games magazine here in Brazil.top-notch previews, unbiased reviews, loads of screenshots on both the previews and reviews and always giving advices(not cheats or walkthroughs)on difficult games.
I remember when they gave a 7 page review on BG2 and the xpak.also went out of business in 2002.can't remember the name though

SimonG: When it comes to printed magazines, there was one excellent published in Germany called PC Player. That was truly the best gaming magazine ever published. They hardly gave in to (unjustified) hype and praised a lot of games that weren't commercially succesfull but are now high up on the wishlist.

Truly top notch magazine. Sadly it went out of business in 2002...

Heinrich Lenhardt used to write for them, didn't he? Funny guy, really liked him.

It's similar here. All my favourite pc games magazines died in early 2000s'. Top Secret, Secret Service , Gambler, Reset, best magazines of all times. But they weren't mainstream enough to stay on the market.

By the way, why most of gaming magazines in Germany have shitty covers? Tons of text, different font sizes, they look like a mess :P

examples:

WTF Germany, WTF...

Those are both the tabloids of gaming in Germany. One of them had a column about installing N 64 games. On the N64.

Yes, they did half a page with three pictures on how to stick a cartridge in the freaking console.

Since the PC Player went out of business, I don't read gaming mags anymore...

He and Boris Schneider were two of the founders (or founding staff). Boris Schneider is now working for MS (if he hasn't quit).

AFnord: In a review for the game Mr. Gimmick for the NES, they noted that the game was easy
You can't even beat it if you use a continue, or don't find all the secrets, plus mastering the star is really hard. I don't see how anyone could say the game is easy.
