Hawk52: I dunno. I think games in general are easier today.
in general thats pretty much a fact, success is fun, so games are made so that you will have success no matter what, if thats done in a reasonable way there is nothing wrong with that, but whats bad about that is that games for hardcore gamers are slowly vanishing and fanchises get streamlined, less simulation games where success comes after hours of lerning the machine you command, less complex rpgs, everything has to be easy and accissible, sacrificing something on the way, good is that there are still exceptins, like simulators for example are not totally vanished, there are still some good ones there

You know... The answer just hit me: maybe it's not the games, but the gamers ?
They simply got more skilled as time went on and thus the games that are objectively just as hard nowadays are no longer a match for them ?

I'd say that "accomplishment" is fun. When you overcome obstacles, challenge yourself and achieve victory. "Success" cannot be given, it has to be earned.

I don't think so. I for one know in many regards I am a worse gamer than I was 10 years ago. Best examples are FPS games. My reflexes went down, my eye-sight is a bit worse, and yet I find the ones from today very very easy. And when I get to multiplayer I see how much I actually suck. It's the same with RTS and platformers. I used to be a lot better at it.

In some ways we do get better as we get more experience and we get better at "reading" games and what is the best way to play games - like in RPGs we learn what works and what doesn't from game to game. On the other hand our reflexes go down and we may not have the same level of patience (with bad games) that we had when we were teenagers. So I guess this is a 50/50 kind of thing.

Know a very experienced and mature gamer who bounced from Witcher 2. He played all of the first Witcher, so it must be tough. Me, I played part of the first Witcher. Just did not like the game really. So don't feel alone on that.

I could tell Magicka was not a game for me. Brilliant game, but watch a few videos on youtube and my interest declined.

More and more I prefer turn based strategy.
I just went through the prologue in witcher 2 or I am in jail, just after fistfight. I'm playing now with hard difficulty. I played the prologue before in normal but really was waiting that 1.3 patch before I started to play any further, so it's my first time. Wanted those storage chests.
It isn't so bad. Some bomb throwing, swords swinging and getting a feel for that game.
Well geralt can die easily and will. Potion drinking is bit weird. I should almost be psychic and know when to drink beforehand. With controller at least I can pretty much be fast. And only died 3 times. =)

I payed for this game about 45 € and I don't want the game leave me without a challenge.

If some game is bad and hard, I usually leave it alone. But in a good game, a bit of dying isn't a problem. Unless it's all about reflexes (in rpg), then it sucks.
