Master911: when it came to Half-Life i actually preferred Opposing Force compared to the Main Game.

I just got the HL anthology and HL2 for $11.88 on Steam. Is Opposing Forces really better than the first game? I'll just have to see for myself.

It really varies from person to person. I, like Master, like Op4 better than the original HL, but it's the other way around for most people. What pretty much everyone agrees with is that BS (Blue Shift) is the worst of the three.
Of course, I thought HL2 (and the episodes) were leaps and bounds better than the original HL games anyways.
I have been playing HL2 on 360 and am not as in love with it as I am in the Episode Versions. I just got it because it was like 5 or 6 bucks and has like 13 mods or so.

Drat: I should mention that this kid had spent the last 10 minutes droning on about how Diablo II and especially its expansion were the greatest things to grace the earth. Don't get me wrong, I think DII's great, but almost all you do in that game is click!

And sometimes you don't even need to be close on the target.
Like in sacred for exemple you can hold shift and shoot wherever you want.
You don't need to point the target , just the general direction.
Actually Shift+click attacking works in D2 too.
BTW I find it strange that many people (at least those I know) call D2 the best RPG game ever, despite the roleplaying being....absent.
RPG is often used when we are dealing with stats (strength , stamina , wisdom , dexterty ,
... ) and the usage of skills. Nowadays the RPG part is elaborated by adding choises , a lot of dialogue options , changes in the game based on your choises , ... .
Titanquest is simular , crap story but great RPG boosting the avatar statswise and skillwise.
I to like diablo as i could mlake a kick ass char :)
Older RPG systems were not bad, but I'm just really used to today's RPG standards.
EXP farming.
Stats.
Dialog choices with different outcomes (I loved helping the old man in KOTOR who was being mugged and then turning around after killing the thugs and taking his cash. Evil, thy name is CCC.)
Unique items.
Thats about it. I love old ones though (Fallout isn't as open as I would like it to have been, but it still is a nice game.) and have a place in my heart for ALMOST all categories (Except minigames and Wii shit.)
Completing the last level of 'The sentinel' (it had 9999) to be rewarded by the code for level 1.
Thankfully, I didn't actually do it, but there was a nationwide campaign in a gaming mag to collect the codes for all 10k, and that's how it ended.
Mine...
Deus Ex 2 and Thieft 3 - At the time, it was not yet normal for PC games in established PC series to be console reports. I remember being pretty saddened by how console centered these two games were, especially since their prequels are among my favorite games of all time. Even today, in games like Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor Airborne, I feel the PC versions of these PC series are better than those two games were.
Oblivion - Just a massive step down from Morrowind in every way but graphics. I give them a pass on dialogue, since it was the first game with all speech of that magnitude, but the lack of depth to the story, world and atmosphere was just heartbreaking. I feel they did better with Fallout 3 though, so I have hopes for the future.
Halo 2 - I don't game on consoles, but I still loved the original Halo despite how aged it looked on PC. The sequel though was just terrible... not only was it a poor port, and way too old to look anywhere near good, but it was just a much worse game all together. Smaller, cramped levels, a dirty look to it, stupid story... the original stands alone, in my opinion.
It's funny those are all sequels... I guess it makes sense though, since to be dissapointed you need to have expectations, which I seldom do for a brand new series.
I had one today, and luckily found this instead of having to start my own whinge thread :)
Hoyle Card Games 2009
Rather than whinge I'll let the 1-star rating on Amazon speak for me. At least their auto-updating program worked and didn't eat 500MB of bandwidth before failing :(.
I actually enjoyed the 2005 version - that's 4 versions ago - which had none of the issues that are present in the current version. I am flabbergasted that a company can progressively make a franchise game worse each year without getting their licence revoked.
Thankfully the store I bought it from made an exception to their returns policy and processed a refund, so I'll be spending that on GOG's new catalog additions tonight.

LOL true.

Bmoyn715: for example I had a guy argue with me once at Game Stop that Niko Bellic from GTA 4 was ITALIAN, who anyone whose played the game for 5 minutes can tell you is not the case. another example is when someone says that one franchise rips off another one, even though said franchise predates the one it is supposedly ripping off.

Rohan15: Yeah, because he totally wasn't Russian nor did he describe parts of his life in Mother Russia! Those freaky Italians...LOL. That guy needs to get his facts straight before stepping back into that Game Stop.

Umm... I'm pretty sure he wasn't Russian, but rather Eastern European. Most likely Serbian. At least he spoke Serbian.
