l0rdtr3k: fallout 3.I'm a fan of the series but FO3 don't have the feel of 1 and 2
FO3 was a perfectly decent game, but suffered a bit for its name. I had fun with it, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't a Fallout game. I think most of the bitching wouldn't have been there if they'd've named it something else.

Also, fixed most of the bugs before launch.

SpirlaStairs: Assassin's Creed series
I can't agree with that one, the game was pretty revolutionary at the time, and still holds up a lot better than most of the crap coming out these days. The first one was overly repetitive, but the last couple releases resolved that issue.

Probably the only one that still remains is it being quite linear besides the side quests.
Planescape : Torment.

As a Story, its pretty good (I hear, I could never get into the damn thing long enough to get far)

As a game? It sucks. I've tried several times to play it, and it just comes across as clunky, sorry!

I do think this may not be the popular view, however...;o)

AND - wierdly, I usually enjoy that sort of game, its not like I'm a twitchy trigger happy FPS only person either.....go figure....
1. World of Warcraft: I blame this one for the overall mediocrity of MMORPG genre nowadays.

2. God of War series: Stupid button smashing

3. Diablo 2: I hope everyone who was introduced to Diablo by this game gives a chance to the amazing prequel.

4. League of Legends: Everyone is playing this. For me, it is just a 15 minutes deathmatch where you have to memorize a tactic beforehand.

5. Assassin's Creed 2: Despite the majority opinion, I believe the first game was much better.

6. Deus Ex Human Revolution: I blame this game for making me not wanting to play the first game anymore.
Man, my post above was really angry. Not sure I really hate those games like I acted like I did.

Not knowing this was an old thread though I came in here to write "Halo 2." I don't know about the ones after that because they never came to PC but Halo 2 was a god-awful game in every respect; level design, graphics, story, combat, etc. Just terrible. And I liked the original, so I'm not just bashing the series or consoles or whatever.
I'm surprised at only one mention of Black and White. That game got 90% review scores it never deserved for a boring and limited pet simulator.

It wasn't very clunky to me.
I'll throw another vote in for KotOR. The story was unengaging, the characters were all fawning and uninteresting (HK-47 is the exception to this rule), and I just don't understand the love it gets. Is is being judged as a game, or as Star Wars? As a game, it was pretty boring.

Yep. Maybe the game rested on the laurels of Peter Molyneux, and so people wanted to love it. It defintely was a novel style of game, and probably got kudos for that. But I tried playing it a few years back and ultimately I thought it fell flat.

I would like to add every single game that came from Lionhead Studios. Some people that I know think that the first Fable game was TEH BEST GAEM EVA, which is really really sad.

Sorry, I have to disagree here. Even if you cast aside the story, there was a lot going for it without the story. A few points from the top of my head.

In PST there were truly several unique ways to solve a puzzle. Finding them and then trying to figure out the best way to go forward, you don't see that level of freedom in many games.

The music.

I find it also very accessible for a "new to D&D player". While I never really gotten into BG, as I wasn't a big AD&D fan at the time, PST sucked me in instantly due to it's uniqueness. Everything was so weird, that everything was possible and no prior knowledge about the universe was needed. It wasn't just another Tolkien rip-off like so many other fantasy settings

Morte! Best.Side-Kick ever.

Finally there was a lot to explore in this game. There were no "dead areas", every named person and every corner of a map had some unique( boy, I've been using that word a lot ;-)) bonus for the exploring kind.

The mortuary alone has more to offer as a game than most "modern" rpgs.

And before I get branded as some old school hard hass. I played through Dragon Age II twice and enjoyed both times!

So, even if the story of the game would have been so bad, that it would have ended with killing general Shepard, it would have been a good fun game.

(And I support the burning of the heretic none the less)

Oh, as a game, it definitely sucks, that's hard to deny. But the story more than makes up for it, IMO. And the art and music. Gameplay, not really.

Want to hear a blasphemy of my own? Deus Ex is the single most overrated game I have ever played. It's a really good game, at times truly great, but all the fuss people keep making about it... unjustified, to say the least.
