The people here have always been great in helping me out with non-games related computer problems, so here i'am resorting to the GOG community for some assistance, hopefully someone can help me out :D

I put together a new computer earlier and i've been slowly squashing little problems and oversights as they pop up, this is my first custom computer, so i expected things like this. However, i've run into a major problem that's...problematic to say the least. My mouse cursor lags, can be unresponsive at times and in general...makes it impossible to play games like FPSs. This doesn't happen ONLY in games, this is general, but i was giving an example of how it can affect gameplay.

I've already tried switching from the front case USB ports to the motherboard ports in the back, i've tried switching to the USB 3.0 ports, i've tried difference mice and it's the same thing. This is the same mouse that was working fine on my other Win 7 PC which is not Win XP Pro and the other mouse is my laptop's which works fine with it.

I read that this can happen if the processor is being hogged, but that's impossible...CPU usage is under 15% and this is a 6 Core we're talking about.

I'm not sure what the problem could be and i'm out of ideas on what to try and i'm getting frustrated, i can't even properly test run this rig if the mouse isn't working right :(

I assume it's not the issue I've had once or twice with Windows glitching and setting your cursor to freeze when you use the keyboard? I can't remember how to solve it, but it might be worth typing something and seeing if you can move your mouse at the same time. I believe that a quick google revealed the answer when I had the issue (which in my case turned out to be to restart to get it to load my settings correctly, but obviously you'd have to change the settings...)
Same problem a few times before AND in the last 24 hours - took it back today and the wiring in the cable had started to shear. Got it replaced and now working nicely.

A pain in the arse if this is your problem (having to return it etc) but worthwhile if you can.

Edit: it was the disconnect / reconnect within such a short timeframe causing the lag - ten or twenty reconnections in a few seconds for example - just confused the hell out of my computer.

2 things: Go into the bios, at boot, and make sure usb is set to the highest (enhanced, i think,) and 2, get drivers and control program for mouse, if they have them.

Gonna check the BIOS, neither of these mice have drivers though :\

Shiek2005:
As in the wire / cable from the mouse to the computer.

Edit: NVM - now see you've tried different mice, sorry!

My BIOS doesn't have any such setting, my motherboard is the ASRock Extreme 3.

What os are you running?

Only ask as there are powertoys, from ms, that might help.

Running the same, no toys, but has to be a mouse software thing; somewhere.

A lot of help, I know, but double check in control panel for mouse things. Doesn't matter if under input devices, energy saving areas, or whatever.

Should you have another mouse, pop it in and see if same problem.
I would try a clean boot to see if you have a software conflict.

If no joy, I would look for a bios update.
After much messing around i fixed it, i found a post of the logitech forums that helped, apperantly attaching the USB reciever through a USB extension cable fixes the problem. A bit of a crude fix, but whatever, i'm glad that's sorted.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)
