DieRuhe: I played it eight years ago. I remember liking it.
I think 2 could have used a little more "stuff" - that was a lot of empty land to traverse.
Grand Theft Auto 3 was more empty than Far Cry 2.
GoodGuyA: Crysis is one of the best modern FPS experiences you can get. Amazing use of mechanics that really create an awesome playing method for everyone who tackles it. There's a whole lot of variety, a solidly long campaign, and constantly shifting objectives that really help the pacing. If your aversion isn't to free form, then Crysis is amazing.
jefequeso: This. Far Cry 1 was a very flawed possible gem. Crysis was a borderline masterpiece. The way all the powers interacted with the fantastic physics and AI was just...awesome. It's still one of the only games I've finished and then started right back up again.
I just wish that Crytek hadn't forgotten what made the game so good when they were designing the last 3rd. From the tank battle onward it gets significantly less interesting (if still relatively fun). Sachys: I can agree with some of that - though i found FC2 to be too repetetive and easy myself - for some opposite reason to your statement.
i look forward to trying FC3 at any rate!
jefequeso: Yeah, I'm not going to deny that Far Cry 2 has some less-than-perfect design choices and can come across as too little game spread across too much space and time. The reason I enjoy it so much is that most of its faults are things I personally have a very easy time looking past in favor of the nearly endless sandbox fun (I think I've played more Far Cry 2 than just about any other FPS of this generation, because when you get down to it miost of the gameplay is a blast).
