Didn't much like C&C3 nor RA3, I felt they'd not lived up to the previous games in either series.

C&C4 is another matter entirely, and I wish I could comment more but I cannot bring myself to buy that game to see what it's actually like. All I've heard made me rather annoyed with it.

Oh yeah, because Ultima Online was totally not just a cash in 13 years beforehand or anything.

TheCheese33: I feel like they could make a great game again. Command and Conquer 4 was their only misstep.
In spite of the fact that the series has been on a gradual downhill slope since Zero Hour? In fact, even though Generals was good, it was never a C&C game in any sense other than name. As such it could be argued that the series never really recovered from that as it was all about cashing in on the name thereafter.

Well, my point was that they are still squeezing money from Ultima even after all these years, I merely cited the most recent example.

I wouldn't have a particular problem with either game, except that they seem unwilling to produce a new single-player Ultima game of similar quality to Ultima 7 or Ultima Underworld. Or indeed any single-player games. I believe Richard Garriott holds some of the rights too of course (main one being the character Lord British of course!), making things a little messy.

Mind you, I think it's probably best that EA not make another SP Ultima game, since it would no doubt not be what older fans are looking for. Best to look to new RPG series and hope they can exceed that which came before.
I hope the next one can at least be as good as C&C 3. Even though C&C3, RA3 fall short of the old C&C's they were still good. They need to completely wow us though to make up for 4. After watching the trailer I am wondering if the reboot is going back to remake Tiberian Dawn. The teaser video's ending text was in the same colors and style as Tiberian Dawns.

I would defiantly like a remake of 4. Add in the forgotten like 3 should have, and get the Scrin back. Make it a proper squeal and all.

That's the best way to look at it and Bioware seem to be EA's primary source of single player RPGs these days but hopefully their continued success will either prompt EA to invest more heavily in single player RPGs or at least prompt others to do so.
Honestly, I tend to really like all the Red Alert games and dislike all the Tiberion themed titles. Red Alert 2 being a particular favorite. I'm not sure why. I suppose it just worked out that way.

I really don't care at all about the "story", though I always enjoy the campy cut scenes and appreciate the good production value and the noteworthy named stars who appear in them.

For me, it's all about skirmishes and LAN or Internet play. I rarely get through all the campaign content.

Though Generals is often derided, I have to say the LAN play was pretty good.

This game got turned into an F2P online only game. There is a petition available, to change this, for those who are interested.
