Tarm: We'll get a new large bunch of forum members for one thing. That's not all bad but I'm still not over the latest wave.
I agree, I could do without all the spam threads, wish list threads, birthday threads and various junk that just clutters up the general forum with general cruft.

I've got no particular problem with people posting it, just not so much in our only general forum. Perhaps creating a second general forum for at least the spam and birfday freds would be nice.

1. It's THREADS. 2. OMG it's the GENERAL forum! What else did you think would be posted here? Talks about Gog only? Of course a Gog specific general forum and a separate misc general forum is sounding like a good idea.

klaymen: Why? Many people will be happy about what we will get, some will be euphoric, some will bitch about how this or that sucks and that's it. It is just as nornal, only now in higher scale.

DrIstvaan: I agree with this, and add that there'll also be a bunch of posters saying "[game] shouldn't be $10, it's only worth $6" and "[game] isn't even worth the $6 asking price, it should be given away for free".
Hope the majority of posts will stay civil and at least say something good about the new arrivals.
Sometimes a bit of stirring the pot can be fun, in moderation of course. ;)

That's sort of the problem. Previously there was consensus that begging for games to be added wasn't OK , and it's been pretty recently that this got to be high enough volume to even really care about.

Personally, I'd rather they added a general non-gog or perhaps general non-gaming forum as it would likely be the most reasonable compromise.

The other thing which would really help the spam situation out a lot is if they'd give us a formal PM system rather than the ad hoc one that's sprouted up. If you look in a lot of the large threads there ends up being a lot of side talking because it's so difficult to take it off forum.

I would hope that publishers are used to gamers' typically rather binary impressions of their games by now.

I agreed that a separate forum for chatter would be good but what's the problem with side talking if the thread is dead and/or served it's purpose and most people have left it? Well besides confusing those who think new content has been posted to said threads that is.

Because it's confusing and tends to lead to the forum being less useful. I'm not proposing that every single thread and post within the thread needs to be on topic, but it's gotten to the point where it's really hard to follow some of the topics. And a lot of the topic titles just plain suck. I admit that it's not always easy, but a lot of the topics are named in such a way that you've no idea what's going on in there without going in.

The other problem being that just because it's the general forum doesn't mean that spamming is OK, in my view there ought to be a limit to one completely useless thread on the page a a time.

Or better yet, do what the folks over at KoL did and give that sort of useless spam posting its own sub forum.

1. It's only confusing if you don't know how to properly skim an article/book/block of text/etc.

2. If a thread has a cool sounding yet confusing name but is named as something you may like then enter...if not then don't. :\

3. Why? It's not like there's dozens of spam ad threads from Asia on the page 1 every day. What you may consider spam some may consider worthwhile. Also in general anything other than blatant offsite adverts can be considered ontopic and not spam.

4. Again it's not spam to everyone.

1. It's obnoxious having to wade through several pages of crap, whether or not one knows how to skim.

2. It gets really ridiculous really quickly trying to keep track of what's going on in various ill-named threads

3. If the intended audience is 1 person, that's spam. If it has no topic, it's spam. If it's spam it's spam. Just because I'm not interested doesn't mean that it's spam, but you can usually tell the difference pretty quickly.

4. Doesn't matter if it's not spam to everybody, it clutters up the forum and makes it a pain for everybody else. Posting asinine threads with no purpose isn't a problem when it's just one or two, but when they start to multiply much beyond that it makes the forum less useful.

1. Learn to deal with it then, or give up on it entirely. It's on the reader to skim for what they want to read, not the poster to write what/as the reader wants.

2. Again, ill named threads aren't worth getting that worked up about. Either open them and see if you're going to want to read them and/or contribute to them or don't. Also, you can just read the first few posts and reply to those or the OP in egenral. You don't have to read the entire thread to post in one.

c. You can't tell the intended audience just from reading a thread for 100% certain. Also, just because a thread has a nosensical topic or content doesn't make it spam, it might just be different is all. Some may be spam, yes, but you can't say for certain that every thread you think is spam IS in fact spam.

d. I agree about the clutter but again this is the GENERAL FORUM, not a specific topic or subject forum. I agree maybe we need a misc general subforum but that's about it.
