Silent. Emotionless. Undetected. Lethal. Effective. Hitman: Codename 47.

Hitman: Codename 47, a game that crafted a standard for in-game contract killers, can finally stealthily approach you with a garrote wire on GOG.com for $5.99.

The ultimate gaming assassin is silent, emotionless, infallibly lethal, well-dressed (suit up!), and he can only be distinguished by the barcode tattooed on his bald skull. His name is 47 and he has created a lot of bad publicity for bald men wearing red ties since his first appearance in 2000.

Hitman: Codename 47, the first game in the franchise that has spanned 4 titles and a movie to date, developed a completely new approach towards third-person shooters and stealth games. You need planning, elaborate schemes, deceit and sometimes a garrote wire to perform your assignments in the most “silent” manner. Or you can just kill everyone, one by one. Find the target and eliminate it, by any means possible. That's all that really matters.

You can become a cold-blooded contract killer in Hitman: Codename 47 for only $5.99.
I haven't played Blood Money yet (time constraints), but out of the three Hitman games that I played I have to say that I think Contracts is the best, even though it is the shortest one.
Codename 47 is rather simple (but not easy) compared to the sequels.

Paradoks: snip
Blood money is better. In fact, every Hitman game is a progress compared to the older titles.
of all the hitman games i remember the most is codename 47 , it was one of a kind the next sequels improved the game but it was the same thing , so i prefer the first one still
ha ha ha, I just love it when 47 drags a corpse by his leg into a sewer behind that restaurant :D :D :D
I have enjoyed this series a lot over the years, but the first one is by far the worst.

Blood Money more or less perfected the formula, but - from what I've seen of it - it looks like the series is now headed into more standard action/stealth game territory with Absolution, rather than the unique open-ended 'puzzles' that the previous games presented.

I will gladly play Hitman 2, Contracts and Blood Money again, though.
The difficulty in this one never bothered me, it was like a challenge. When the sequels came with the new saving system it kind of felt like cheating. I played the rest of the games on the hardest difficulty and with no saves and beat both of them (except bloodmoney witch i haven't played yet) and it felt just right.

i'm gonna have to save up for this one, i haven't played it in ages.

i think the jury's still out on that. it has always been possible to play the previous Hitman games as a straight-forward action game. just grab an automatic rifle and start shooting. it was never advisable, but usually possible. Blood Money even let you upgrade your M-4 with a drum mag. you wouldn't need 100 rounds per magazine for stealth takedowns...
Curious.

You know what? Today I realised the Hitman games might have influenced the making of The Transporter movies. Bald guy and all that.

keeveek: Whole quadrology is sold in poland for equivalent of 9 bucks, so ill pass.
More like 8$ at this exchange rate, but in any case, I'm with this guy (same thing with Deus Ex really). The boxes aren't that great but what the hell.
Still, this games place is on GOG alright.
This is awesome. Hitman 1 is legendary!

Also try this: shoot an enemy, tap Scroll Lock repeatedly until you die laughing.

You're right, it's too early to make any kind of judgement on the game.

My concern is not in regards to weapons vs. stealth, but has to do with some potentially very linear and scripted level design - based on a video playthrough of one level that I saw. But then again, the first level (basically the tutorial) in Blood Money was almost completely on rails, so I hope what I've seen is just from the beginning.

What I like about Hitman are the uniquely open murder scenarios that almost feel like puzzles (with several solutions, of course). I can't think of any other game series like it.

Nice job GOG in convincing Square to list Hitman for $5.99 ($9.99 on steam)

Awesome game! Unfortunately I already own this one so I'll be passing on the GOG title for now.
Holy smokes! Nice addition to the catalogue.
I really like Max Payne and Thief and other moody, genre bending first person games. I've been meaning to find another first person game along these lines...Will this game scratch my itch?
