It's been quite a while since our last pinball release so we'd like to make up for it by giving you 5 titles for the price of one - the uber-nostalgic Pinball Gold Pack.

So, how does the Pinball Gold Pack compare to the other pinball releases on GOG.com? First of all, you get five games - Pinball Dreams 1 and 2, Pinball Fantasies, Pinball Mania, and Pinball Illusions, each featuring four pinball tables. That's twenty tables in total, each with a unique theme. The physics are reasonable, but can hardly be compared to those found in newer, more technologically advanced pinball games, for obvious reasons. There's one thing the Pinball Gold Pack has that its younger cousins don't - the sheer oldschool, nostalgic feeling you get when you play it. The fact that the game used .MOD files for music, in order to save space, might bring a tear to some of you PC veterans' eyes, too. Care to take a trip back in time for less than 10 bucks?

CalamityRanger: There was a pinball game I used to get a kick out of when I was younger. I think it came with Windows. I could be completely wrong but it was space themed and I think you got little "missions" in it. I have no idea if I'm remembering it wrong, or what it was even called but it was the most fun I've ever had with a pinball game. :P
I think you are talking of "Space Cadet", a forerunner of the Sierra 3D Pinball range. It wasn't good, but it wasn't that bad either.
How about the SIerra 3D Ultra Pinball Series in a pack? "Creep Night 'remains one of favorite pin ball games of all time.

I would love for Dungeon Keeper to be on GOG, but until EA decdes to make a deal with GOG, it just ain't going to happen, and I am getting tired of the bitching about it. It's not GOG''s fault, they would sign up EA in a New York Minute if EA would agree to release their games in the GOG no DRM format.

I do wonder why GOG does not release the other Sierra City Builder Games, Zeus in particular.

I agree the Ten Dollar price tag seems excessive for Pinball Gold, but I understand the Publisher decides on the Six or Ten Dollar price for a game.

Which version of pinbal illusions did they include, the one with 4 tables or the one with 3? Iirc the version with 4 tables circulating had broken music. So if we get the version with 4 and without broken music I am getting this. Someone ?
I have to agree with StarEye, the PC-version of Pinball Dreams does not seem to have the proper ball physics that the Amiga version had. It seems a lot simpler. That's disappointing, Pinball Dreams was excellent on the Amiga.

Fantasies was my favourite, though, so if that's okay I'm not going to complain about it. But the sloppy PC-version and somewhat poor Spidersoft games (Mania and Dreams 2) would have been a good reason to include SlamTilt to increase the overall quality. Maybe Rebellion never got the rights to that one.

It has four tables.

I did not notice any broken music, in what way is it supposed to be wrong?

Wasn't there a discussion at some point mentioning the possibility of GOG releasing Amiga versions of some of the games in the catalog? Being able to download IPFs of Pinball Dreams or Cannon Fodder as bonuses with the PC versions would be very nice...

Perhaps something to discuss with Cloanto!
Hearing about these slightly lame versions of great pinball games is disappointing. I would hope that GOG remedies this, but I don't know the first thing about how they would go about releasing Amiga versions of things.
Niiice pack ... but I WANT MY PSYCHO PINBALL !!

Okay: while you guys dig deep for the publishing rights, I'll drown my anticipation in pure nostalgia by getting this pack ;)

Steelwheel ftw!
thekittster: Indeed, that would be very nice.

The thing that annoys me the about this compilation (having spent some time with it now) is that with Dreams being a really poor port, the only games worth playing are Fantasies and Illusions. The Spidersoft-games are utter crap.

Now, Fantasies especially is REALLY worth playing. But I'm worried that if new players don't happen to try that one first, the bad first impressions will make it easy to dismiss the whole pack as a waste of money.

I normally wouldn't say this, but in this case, less is better. GOG should have ditched Dreams 2 and Mania. Dreams 1 is at least important from a historical point of view, and has some great music, but again - people who want to have a go at that one should buy it on PSN (and a better version of Fantasies is there too, the only good one missing is Illusions).

Or better, as mentioned, GOG should have ditched the Spidersoft games and included SlamTilt. Like Illusions, it's a bit too keen on wasting your time on the scoreboard minigames, but otherwise it's a really great pinball game.

maciek: a fact:
number of pinball games on gog - 7
number of dungeon keeper games on gog - 0
Nyaaa ... What's with Evil Genius?
There are way too many pinball games on this website.
We need more minigolf games. In particular, that one released by Sierra, where each course had it's own voice over.
We also need dungeon keeper.
Purchased this yesterday..... it's awesome!
Right. Insta-freaking-buy.

There'll always be not enough pinball games until Adventure Pinball: Forgotten Island is on here. :)
There was a pinball game I had way back when whose title I forget, but it involved launching a rocket as a table goal, and there were three tables between which you could warp, as well as each table having one or two small platform tables and some separate mini-game tables like the rocket launch one . . . It didn't have great ball physics or anything, but it was a blast. With that absolutely stellar description I'm sure it's clear and GOG should license it immediately :-P

. . . I really should see if I can dig it up again.
I've never been into pinball games because I prefer the real deal, but I just might have to look into these ones, for no other reason than that I really like the look of the artwork on the tables. The artwork of some of the classic games is a big reason why I like them. Too bad this release doesn't come with any extras.
