Today you will see a strange message on your computer screen from a mysterious being called the Guardian!

Visit Britannia once more to prove that you are a true champion of the Virtues. GOG.com and EA bring you the [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/ultima_7_complete]Complete Ultima 7 to you for only $5.99!

You are the Avatar, summoned once again to Britannia, the fabled land of the monarch Lord British. When you arrive through the Moongate, you meet with your old friend Iolo. An obscene murder has just shook the town of Trinsic. You learn that a new organization, called the Fellowship, has been growing in numbers. As you investigate the mysterious murder and begin uncovering true motivations of the Fellowship, you’re also haunted by ominous warnings of the enigmatic Guardian.
Ultima 7: The Complete Edition features a complete graphical and control overhaul of the Ultima engine. The oldschool top-down Ultima view has been revamped: now the game fills the whole screen and finally you can control the whole game with a mouse. The vast populated world of NPCs with their own life schedules makes exploring the enormous area of Sosaria an engaging and epic adventure. Ultima 7 is distinguished by the total immersion and freedom in exploring and completing the game. You can pick up everything and interact with every nook and cranny out there. To eat, which is needed for survival, you need to get flour and water, mix them on a table in a bakery, than use the the newly created dough on a fireplace to bake bread. If you’re good at it, the baker might just tip you for your effort!
The tactical combat system of earlier Ultima series games has been replaced with a real-time combat system, where the AI is controlling your team and you, the player are only in control of the Avatar. You advance in experience via Ultima’s familiar level up system where once you have earned a sufficient amount of experience points you automatically gain a level.

Ultima 7: The Complete Edition consists of Ultima 7: The Black Gate, Ultima 7: The Forge of Virtue, Ultima 7: Part Two - Serpent Isle, Ultima 7: Part Two - The Silver Seed all in one package for as low as $5.99!
And this ladies and gentlemen completes all of the Ultima games i've wanted out of the GOG/EA deal. One of these ages i'll get to playing it along with the rest of my ginormous backlog. An outstanding release today GOG.

Mosse85: I`m noob with this. Little more detailed :)
I don't have this game , but I think they are trying to say that there should be separate application / exe to setup options.

Are you on XP? Win 7? Linux? On XP still myself, but as I understand it Windows 7 is notorious for wanting games to be installed only in one specific location.
I have Vista myself. And I understand that all GOG games run without this kind of bullshit. Well lets see what happens. Thanks to all for your help.

An obscene murder >< just shook the town of Trinsic

Awesome ! We just need System Shock 2 now !
Honestly, I'm very unfamiliar with the Ultima series and I have been waiting for this one since EA was signed. I'm gonna give this one a shot really soon. Good release guys!
Many forum regulars must have heard me whinning at least once about the lack of Ultima VII on GOG since day one, even disrupting other releases discussions when I felt like protesting.

This is the reason I've been here these years. Finally. Thanks GOG. Really, thanks. Now I can return to my planet. Good bye, people.
Fantastic addition that includes SI and the expansions! For only 5.99! Great update.

Now they just need to add the Worlds of Ultima games and System Shock :)

Kunovski: is this the one starting with you witnessing an execution?
The one with the execution is Ultima 8 Pagan. A great game, but most people prefer Ultima 7 and some are even quite bitter about Ultima 8 and 9 because they're not Ultima 7 (pretty much like some people hate Fallout 3 because it's not Fallout 2).

RaggieRags: Is this running on DosBox or Exult?
avatar
Grombart: Wanna know this, too!
Exult is a remake, not the original EA game. Can't be.

wormholewizards: I have trouble playing Ultima IV. The colour (8 bit i think), is too vibrant and i can't tolerate such vibrance; it can give me headache in short time. I can barely get past the intro part.
I hope this one has better colour palette.
And to think Ultima IV is mostly all black background (except for the intro). You ever played a Playstation? :)

timppu: SPOILER WARNING, the link below includes the ending video of Ultima 7 (base game).
And why would you do this?

Uhm, i think Ultima IV graphic nowhere near the PS.
Truly a good old game. Really nice to see this up here :)

Would be an instant buy for me if I didn't have the CD 4 feet away.
@RafaelLopez:
Exult is NOT a remake of U7. Exult is a remake of the engine. Slight but important difference. Exult needs the original U7 games or it wouldn't be able to do anything.

SpirlaStairs: Can I still enjoy this if I've never played another Ultima game before?

MrGOTIME: Soooo....if I have never played the Ultima games, would this be THE one to start with?
The Ultima series is loosely organized in three trilogies (not originally, but nowadays it is, canonically). Ultima 7 is the beginning of third trilogy, so you might consider it a good starting point, specially if you don't wanna waste too much time with the less advanced games that came before.

Of the earlier games, except for die-hard fans, the ones you could possibly want to play before Ultima 7 are Ultima 4 (for the better story) and Ultima 6 (for the better game engine and graphics). But Ultima 7 wraps it up with the best story, graphics, engine and experience of the whole series. And if you pick up both parts, there's a good 2 months worth of playing ahead of you.

Also, if you're worried about spoilers for the earlier games, this game shows the world after what happened in Ultima 4 (virtues and the avatar) and Ultima 6 (the gargoyles thing), but I don't think it really affects the experience. You'll need to dig a bit for info on those earlier games anyway if you want to beat them and take less than a couple of months.

DominusExult: @RafaelLopez:
Exult is NOT a remake of U7. Exult is a remake of the engine. Slight but important difference. Exult needs the original U7 games or it wouldn't be able to do anything.

From the official Exult site:
Exult is a project to recreate Ultima 7 for modern operating systems, using the game's original plot, data, and graphics files.
So, you're right.

But you missed my point. Exult isn't the original EA game, it's a software by some guy that runs a game that happens to use the same data and graphics files from an EA game. The original EA game is here, and it can't be Exult... at least I think it can't.

And it would make sense either, why license Ultima from EA and use the inferior Exult? Even if people had trouble running Ultima 7 back in the days, with today's processing power, DOSBox came to the point where no DOS game runs slow or sluggish (provided it's compatible). People might find it easier to configure Exult, ok, but GOG already did the hard job. The real experience counts...

peeekz: Now all they have to add here is martian Dreams, and the first Dune game!
Yeah, I want both Martian Dreams and Savage Empire. In a way they sound a lot more interesting to me than the "proper" Ultima games, though I'm aware they were not as well received.
