For the glory. For the honor. For the exploding bananas!

For those who’d love to taste some spineless violence, get your hands on Team 17 Software’s explosive and entertaining [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/worms_united]Worms United for only $5.99.

Worms is a turn based artillery game populated with the gaming industry’s cutest and most lethal annelids to ever tote a bazooka. The worms are divided into teams with a simple goal: destroy the opposition with a crazy assortment of weapons in a fully destructible environment. Two teams of four begin a deadly shoot-out until one of them has no one left to wiggle. The simplicity of background story (none) and game objectives (kill the other guy) contrasts nicely with the huge number of available weapons, ammo, and special items.

An extensive variety of weapons is something everyone loves, and Worms United doesn’t disappoint. Get your hands on all kinds of explosive mayhem: bazookas, some simple firearms like a shotgun or an Uzi, heavy weapons, grenades, airstrikes, and even special bizarre weapons like banana bombs and exploding sheep. The 'cartoon-like' graphics and light-hearted audio only add up to a perfect storm of violence, comedy, soaring victory and howling defeat that has made the series so famous and appreciated. Whether playing against the computer or--even better-- humiliating your friends via hotseat play, you’ll find this tactical classic game excellent as a coffee break refresher or in longer sessions of madcap fun.

Worms United delivers the first installment in Worms series along with the expansion pack Worms Reinforcements, adding extra elements like a single-player campaign and the ability to add custom levels and soundpacks.

Get Worms: United now for only $5.99 and experience for yourself the glory of a dragon-punch that sends your last opponent off a cliff!
Bought. Downloaded. Played.

Remembered I'm my worst enemy.

Next: Convince better half to try out the hot-seat mode (which is where the fun really begins).
Worms is one of those series which was popular everywhere but the US, so I have no idea what it is.

Really?

tl;dr: Scorched Earth with worms and lots of wackiness. Tended to be too wacky for its own good in the later instalments. Very enjoyable in hot-seat MP. Should be still fun.
I hope for Worms World Party...

I never noticed that. Then again, I never played online, only hot seat. All of my friends loved the game, though...

The biggest problem with the Worms series is that the AI is so bad that it really only makes a good multi-player game. The result of an AI turn, regardless of difficultly, is always ridiculously stupid miss or ridiculously accurate hit.

TheJoe: Unfortunately the soundtrack is not the same as the original CD version, much like the Steam version.
Wait, WHAT?

I loved the original music but a friend of mine had a crack that let you insert any CD you wanted and we always used Enya Watermark - it's become a habit so that's what I use when playing Worms now :p

Fujek: You mean NO BOGGY B?
That's not only a shame, but a real drawback!
No Boggy B. It's been replaced by a dance track.
Worms World Party please.

I'm not sure if the CD version of United ever had Boggy B. My Worms CD has Boggy B, but my United CD has the dance track.

I don't think Worms United ever had Boggy B. I've got a Worms United CD from the 90's and a Sold-Out Software re release and they both have the dance track instead.

Edit: aahh SirPrimalform beat me to it :(

I'm glad you confirmed it because my United CD is the Sold-Out version so I wasn't sure whether mine had the dance track instead because it was a reissue or not.

depending on the settings chosen (ie superweapons on, ammo set, etc.), you could literally kill A TON of them/you (regardless of cover status) with Armageddon. Other super weapons include the Holy Hand Grenade, Super Bannana Bomb, and others. So much fun when playing with other people but not so much fun playing alone. I have personally played worms 2, worms: Armageddon, Worms: Reloaded, and Worms Pinball (for the duration that I had my AV disabled because it read the .exe as a virus-and THIS was the STEAM version)

Ah well then. Glad I never bought it when it came out.
