Now, call me paranoid, but in a time where Google collects wireless LAN entry points with their streetview scans and search behaviour for "personalized" advertising, Apple the location of your iPhone, Facebook being notorious for their "care" of personal data - why would I want that?

It's all about ease of use and such. You can already use sites like facebook and also twitter to connect to and interact with various other sites in many ways to trasnfer data between them or allow your friends access to your homepages/public albums/etc, or vice versa.
