TheEnigmaticT: We're not planning anything crazy today aside from our usual weekend sale. Hope you guys enjoy the selection today!

keeveek: fire your (GOG's) PR manager.
No one likes the guy, but we'd feel bad shipping him all the way back where he came from.

Fred_DM: GamersGate is Swedish, yet they've been running sales all week and have just escalated their discounts to match some of Steam's. and of course, Steam is going absolutely crazy right now. and guess what: even Germans get those crazy discounts...
You're right. Everyone seems to be having a huge sale. We like to do things differently than every one else, but we think our sale this weekend is still pretty good. ;)

Thank whatever god or robot you pray to. The rampant consumerism that surrounds this day is astounding! I would have bought one of this weekend's game's but alas I own most of them already and not interested in the rest. Keep being good old guys though.

no, you don't "have" to "comply". but that's an odd choice of words considering we're talking about massive discounts on some great games...

i'll gladly "comply" with any US tradition if it gets me Fallout New Vegas and all its DLC at 75% off, etc.

Fred_DM: ....
I'm not saying your wrong, but GOG ran a pretty crazy Christmas sale last year, if they're gearing up for similar I suspect that's what they're waiting for. I know Steam will probably do both, but that's Steam. If you were willing to open your wallet today doing it 4 weeks from today shouldn't be much different:)

It is pretty bad, but then you realize people are trying to buy socks (the Fred Meyer sock sale is infamous around here) and other things they literally cannot normally afford. By participating in the bullshit they'll have twice the amount of gifts under the Christmas tree (or even any at all). Retailers do it because some years they don't actually go into the black until Black Friday (they literally operate all year in the red in the hopes they can get into the black in the last 5 weeks of the year).

I used to hate it a lot more until I realized I had the luxury to sit at home on my ass and simply order stuff that popped up on my computer screen, or just say "fuck it" altogether, because I have the disposable income to do so. Most people don't have a lot of disposable income, though.

And yeah, they shouldn't be buying shit on credit, that's a whole other, complicated story about which I could go on and on, but I won't for now;)

Fred_DM: in case you haven't noticed, pretty much every digital retailer is having insane Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.
So it would be better for GOG to...?
a) also have a sale now
b) wait until people have their next paycheck and then have a sale

svmariscal: Okay, then it's just like the Rebajas de Enero (January Sale) here in spain. Proof:

here, it starts tipically the first working day after New Year's holiday.
Haven't you heard the rule? Only Americans are allowed to be viewed as savage barbarians by pop internet culture. :P
