cogadh: Just the game engine went open source. The game assets; models, textures, sounds, music, etc. did not go open source.
GameRager: redo them from memory/screenshots/etc? I know alot of work but still. Plus think of all the things people could do with the engine.
That would not be worth the effort. It would also get shut down pretty quickly since "re-creating" a game like that is clearly copyright infringement. However, you are correct on the other point. The whole purpose of releasing a game engine as open source is to allow people the chance to do whatever they can imagine with the engine.
outcast1: Just read in the
List of Open Source Games that No One LIves Forever 2 is Open SOurce? So is it freely downloadable somewhere? Or at least a candidate for GOG?
Snickersnack: I think that's just the game code. I really doubt they open sourced Lithtech ver whatever.
I took a look at it, and it doesn't appear to be the Lithtech Jupiter engine source, just the NOLF source, plus some advanced editing tools.
