So yeah, I dug out my retail copy of the original 'Driver' today - here are some observations:
- The retail version seems to be completely boned on modern Win7 machines - no messing with compatibility options seems to help it crashing out immediately
- Its really hard to Google a game called 'Driver' - you get results for video card drivers and such!
- The reason we haven't seen it turn up here may be because the publishers - GT Interactive are now owned by Atari while the developers - Reflections are owned by UbiSoft
- I found something shady called 'PortableDriver' which some site was trying to get me to pay for, then I stumbled across a version of this that seemed hacked and was covered in Russian political graffiti, it seems I may have inadvertently pirated this but I don't feel too bad as, as I say, I have the original CD and how legal can the purchasable version of 'PortableDriver' BE anyway?
- I turned on FMV and Music in Portable Driver and it actually started playing the music from the CD but them stopped and crashed when I tried to go into the game!

Do you guys have any notes on this you'd like to compare? Sorry if this has come up before, as I say, searching for 'Driver' is a bit useless!
Ta!
Hang on - wait, I seem to have found a config utility in my retail installation that has allowed me to put the rez up to 800x600 and the colour depth up to 32bit and that seems to have sorted it out and magically got it running - sweet!
