cjrgreen: The fact that you're modding the installation (the Unofficial Patches are mods, even though they're called patches) before installing OBMM is a large part of the problem.

Start with an installation of the basic game, as received from Steam, with nothing else.

Verify that the installed version of the game is 1.2.0.416. If it is any other version stop there. Problems with files being overwritten or conflicting are usually a sign that you have the wrong version.

Install OBSE and OBMM, before installing anything else. The order of these does not matter. Installing OBSE on Steam requires special instructions, which I linked to in an earlier post. Install OBMM before installing any "Unofficial Patch" or anything other than OBSE.

Note that when OBSE is installed, Oblivion must no longer be launched from its own loader; you must launch obse_loader.exe to start the game. Make sure the game starts correctly from obse_loader.

After OBMM is installed, use the OMOD versions of the Unofficial Patches. Do not use the executable or zipfile versions. Let OBMM install and activate the OMODs for you.

ShogunDarius: do you have links to omod versions of the patches?
OMOD versions should be in the same locations. For example, if you go here:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296

there are 5 different packagings of the Unofficial Oblivion Patch. One of them (read the titles) is the OMOD packaging.

Aaron86: Actually, that's not true anymore. You can launch it from Oblivion's own loader. In your case specifically, from the shortcut that Steam creates when it installs Oblivion.

What you do need to make sure of with the Steam version is that Steam Community is enabled (that thing you get by pressing Shift + Tab).
what should happen when i alt tab?

I don't think Oblivion plays nice with alt tab. I've seen it freeze or crash whenever I try.

sorry i meant shift tab, is the obse meant to show up there?
When you run a Steam game, you can press Shift+Tab to get Steam's own overlay where you can see community-related stuff like your friends, instant messages, and news related to your game.

Edit
Is it crashing every time you try to exit Oblivion?

No. There's no OBSE "widget" that shows up in Steam Community when you Shift+Tab inside of Oblivion. I don't know the exact reason OBSE requires Steam Community to be turned on in order to work.

Also, you don't put the OBSE folder you download itself into your oblivion folder. There are DLL files inside the OBSE folder that go into the oblivion folder. The instructions that came with OBSE will tell you what files to move and where.

just finished that method i found omod for everything but the supplemental, i create and use a omod supplementl and crashes on exit again
You need to enable Steam Community by going to your steam Settings.

How to enable the Steam Community Overlay

Keep in mind that this Overlay will not actually indicate that OBSE is running when you Shift-Tab. It's just something that OBSE requires to be turned on.
