So BBC has already done a fantastic modern reimagining of Sherlock Holmes... and apparently, we're planning on doing our own "me too!" version! But with AMERICAN TV AWESOMENESS! Like making Dr. Watson a woman! We need to have a female sidekick always, after all.

Ok, it might be good. Who knows. But I have my cynical doubts.

I have said it before, and I'll say it again, because it won't ever change:

I want Basil!

Basil is the one true Sherlock. Some other classics are pretty good as well. The modern "reimaginations" make me cringe though. They have good stories, but they just should have stayed away from (ab)using the SHerlock Holmes character for them.

I'm not a Sherlock Holmes expert in any way. I read The Hound of the Baskervilles when I was younger, but that's about it. So I can't judge how well his character is interpreted in BBC's Sherlock. I just know that it's a damn fine piece of television, and I really doubt CBS is going to do better. Or as good. Or even remotely as good.
Oh right, I had that queued for download because it seemed interesting.
But I agree that the US TV and movie industry does rely on certain 'tropes' a lot.
thankfully dr. Watson isn't MEXICAN immigrant...
BBC's Sherlock is amazing. American audiences will probably watch Elementary, though.

Female lesbian mexican imigrant ... with issues.
Well then, I'll just pretend this never existed...

*goes back to reading A Study in Scarlet for the 3rd time*
By the way, it has to be emphasized again : Go watch BBC's Sherlock 2010 , it's simply amazing

Couldn't agree more.

This season's finale was better than many movies. Pity us Americans will have to wait a year for the next season. Again.
Not interested if it does not have a nude Irene Adler :-P
Didn't we already fill our American Sherlock Holmes Corruption Quota (tm) with the Robert Downey Jr. movies?
