Austrobogulator: Well, I would hardly call something unofficial 'real'. Also, there are heaps of GBA games on the 3DS eShop o_O' Although, maybe the only GBA games are ones that came with the Ambassador Program.
As I said, differing ideas of what is real. ;)

And there aren't any GBA games on the eShop. Yes there are the Ambassador games but they're not available on the eShop, that's just how you download them if you have them (and that's certainly not heaps either). People can still download games removed from GOG but I wouldn't say those games are 'on GOG'.

Anyway, there's a reason the GBA games aren't on the eShop (while the NES games are), it's because the way they got them running seems to be hacky as hell. Notice how there are no Virtual Console features like save states and the ability to suspend the game to open the home menu? As far as I can tell, the GBA games are running directly on the hardware making use of the fact that the 3DS is backwards compatible with the DS and the DS was backwards compatible with the GBA. From this I conclude that the only reason you can't play actual GBA carts on the 3DS is the lack of cartridge slot (and associated circuitry) rather than inability to run the games.

So because there are no Virtual Console features and the scaling is wank, I don't think Nintendo considers them fit for general consumption. If they manage to write a GBA emulator that runs fast enough on the 3DS then we might see some GBA games on the eShop.

I suppose that makes sense; I'd still like to see it, even if it doesn't have save states - save states are silly anyway.

Also, scaling is wank on NES games, that hasn't stopped them from releasing them.

I don't care about state saving either and I agree that the scaling on the NES games is wank too (in a different way though), but I'm fairly sure Nintendo now considers state saving to be part of the 'Virtual Console experience' so we're stuck for now.

>_> I suppose I'll just wait until they release the Nintendo 4DS...Surely they'll be able to properly emulate GBA games then.

RayRay13000: Operation Rainfall wanted titles to get localized
avatar
SirPrimalform: They were already localised. Why do you think all the voice acting is British?
I know the acting was British, I was talking about people wanting the games to be published in the as well US (I guess I should've made that clearly from the beginning). It's annoying enough that we got the games after everyone else (if it was a shorter time frame from PAL to US release I wouldn't mind it too much, but it was months to almost a year before we saw a release from any of those titles). And it's happening again with a 3DS title coming out not long from now, Bravely Default PAL release? 2013. US release? 2014. =/

I was making the point that they weren't asking for the titles to be localised because they'd already been localised. They were just asking for a release of an already existing localisation (an even more reasonable thing to ask since the biggest cost for bringing them over had already been paid for).

For whatever reason, there seems to be the impression that 'very obviously Japanese games' are more acceptable here, or rather they are less confident that the US public will accept them. We got Tingle's Rosy Rupee Land for example (and it was great, but extremely Japanese).

Until then, I just play them on my Xperia play because it has actual buttons and GBA games look amazing on it because the vertical resolution of the screen (480px) is exactly 3 times the vertical resolution of the GBA (160px), so the scaling is as sharp as you could possibly wish for (basically imperceptible).

mrcrispy83: honestly I hate Operation Rainfall

Bunch of no good pathetic whiners throwing a temper tantrum over games they haven't even played yet claim they are the best thing ever.
Everyone has their own tastes, but all of those games have their own fans and Xenoblade is pretty universally loved, even if you personally don't care for it. If you did, you'd probably talk about "campaigning for a worthy cause" instead of whining. The truth is that Operation Rainfall was succesful in their attempt, Nintendo brough over some games that made them profit, and lots of people were happy to play these games. I don't see how that's something away from you and why they deserve that kind of contempt.

AllisonUnderland: I'm all for this, but....PSP games? Really?

That's fighting a losing battle right there-most stores don't even have PSP sections anymore, outside of a rack of preowned stuff at Gamestop. There's no reason to split the votes on products that might actually make it over.
In addition to the digital market, there are now some limited print runs of physical discs mainly for collectors, but the PSP market is still going.

I would love to get myself a copy of Valkyria Chronicles 3. The first game was awesome, the 2nd failed on the story part but the gameplay was extremely engrossing. And if what I hear from the 3rd is true, they got the best of both.

DaCostaBR: Aren't the Yakuza games coming anyway? Sega was happy bringing the previous ones a year later without english voice acting, and they were making a nice little profit too if I'm not mistaken.
A lot of people think that (me too), but they let pass more time for anouncement than before. And Yakuza 4 lost 200.000 units to the 3rd one. That's 1/5 from the complete sells. So there are somme doubts about a release.

Except Nintendo, most smaller, not overhyped games have problems with localization. And there are good ones by. Like Devil Summoner 2 for example.
