I have 1, maybe 2 games on origin. Haven't signed in since 2012 if I recall correctly, so it's not as if someone grabbed my password with a keylogger or anything else like that. I don't see how someone even guessed it since apparently it required 8 letters or so, some capitals, some lowercases, one number and a symbol.

Anyway, someone changed my password without permission. I was able to get it reset by having them send a link to my email address. The problem is that someone changed my security question and answer. The question is in Russian and even if it wasn't in Russian, I wouldn't know their answer to it. EA offers no way to reset the security question. So basically, my account is as good as useless now.

I go to do "live chat' but there's a 40 minute wait on live chat and even if I make it through I have no trust in them to fix this.

I don't think I have any payment info tied to the account or anything, boy I hope I don't at least.

Either way ORIGIN SUCKS! How the hell did someone guess my password when I haven't even signed in the past 2 years..LOL. Same kind of thing happened with Blizzard, which I also did not use and yet my account kept getting hacked.

Doesn't happen with my other accounts---GOG, Steam, e-mail, facebook, paypal, amazon, none of the other important stuff besides that. Only EA and Blizzard.
Have you ever used that/those passwords anywhere else? That other place might have been hacked and your password obtained that way.

The targeting of EA and Blizzard could have been to gain control of WOW and SWTOR accounts.

Nope. I have a unique password for every site.
Maybe an old key logger incident, although if that was the case, I find it odd why only EA and Blizzard accounts would be affected. Maybe someone sold it on the black market, and only that went for cash.

Yeah, it's just weird. I don't care really though since I just checked and nothing important is tied to that account, no payment info, no games that I actually play, etc. Makes me leery of Origin though that's all I'm saying.
Did you reply to any E-mails? I get phishing e-mails about my Blizzard account almost weekly and I haven't played in about 4 years.
If that's an option ( I sure hope it is ), just terminate the account entirely, kiss EA and Origin Good Bye and move on. Sounds like the account did not see much use, either way.

Just out of curiosity, which games did you have on there? ( I guess I'm just wondering what made you bother to sign up with them in first place. )

Well, some of them are properly spelled and come off quite well. I could see someone clicking a link going to an authentic-looking login screen and making such a mistake. Granted, there are so many that don't even seem to try very hard, but some are made by a slightly higher class of thief.

Nah, that's one of the reasons why it's so confusing. I got the e-mail this morning saying my password had changed. I immediately headed over to Origin (not using the link, but using a search to find the official site) entered my name and password that I knew were correct but they were wrong. So I re-set it again.

Either someone got my info when I logged in once or twice a couple years ago and hasn't used it until now, or they just have terrible security that allows someone to run an automated script to guess passwords or guess passwords in some other way that's more efficient then sitting there and typing random guesses. It's gotta be one or the other, and I really doubt it's the former. Could be someone tapped into their database too of course.

Either way, I know how to protect myself. Just seems like Origin doesn't.

Hmm, I wonder if you're the only one or has Origin itself been hacked?

Looks like it was a few sports games for a console. Sadly a lot of the sports games in the states are tied to EA. Anyway, I got my security question reset but the important thing is that nothing in that account is useful to anyone, no billing info or addresses or phone numbers. So no harm done. I think. I hope.

I don't know, but I found a thread on their forum filled with hundreds of similar complaints (about Russians hacking their accounts), it started in 2012 but continues until the present day.

It happened to me too. I had BF3+ Premium + BF4 on my account and other AAA games. I managed to get my account AFTER I called EA UK and went through a 2 hour long conversation. After that I also talked with them and they blocked my ip so no other ip can use my account. They also gave me some compensation but that doesn't fix the security breach they had.

Mandatory online accounts for console games? What is this madness?! For me one of the biggest advantages of console games, at least for the last generation, was always that you did not have to deal with online DRM, unlike most modern PC games.
Try logging in through the website, then go to your account and click security. Should be a option there to edit your security question.
