Why do you release the Games in english only?

They don't translate the games, they take the translations that are already out there.

If the game is English only, I guess they are out of luck.

Either that or some genius though it would be a good idea to get the exclusive rights for the game in other languages.

After finding out that some third parties have the copyright to game manuals, but not the games the manuals are for, nothing surprises me anymore in terms of how much they can split up a product to copyright the parts.

This is my guess.

Quite often, localization of games (translating them into other languages) is outsourced to local (to the country of the language) developers, and they may hold the rights to the localizations. Thus, even though a game exists in another language besides English, GOG does not necessarily have the rights to distribute any other versions than the English one. Some GOG games do come with multiple languages, though. I'm pretty sure there's a thread or a GOGMix for them somewhere, but I don't have a link handy.

It's not that bad, games are great teachers of English and English is a very useful language.

Personally, I'm happy that I can _finally_ get the original versions of these games. Getting English games here in Germany was ridiculously cumbersome for years. Finally I don't need to put up with crappy translations anymore! :)

My brother in law is german,. He speaks english perfectly well - but he never saw any problem with german language in english games and movies and what's more important - german voice actors, which - to me - sounds atrocious;)

I guess I'll again be the one to plug my own thread in here. You're all refusing to do it so that I'll have to learn to show off, aren't you?

Anyhow, some games DO come with other languages than English, even if GOG doesn't say it. (They do for most of the games where switching language is simple, some games recquire moving or renamng a few files though, so those are not officially acknowledged as multilingual.) My thread lists both games where there are language files in the GOG package, and translations found elsewhere.

Multilingual GOGs. Heh, look at that, you're listing a few games that I haven't been informed of (or checked out myself). I'll have to update... sometime later, when I get a desk to set up my workstation and get access to my base files.
