scampywiak: Borderlands 2, Max Payne 3, Left for Dead, Fear...lolz. Seriously?
Where is Hard Reset, Pain Killer, Far Cry..?
stressthesky: Whats wrong with FEAR? It was an excellent game when it came out and it still holds up really well. The AI is still some of the best you can find in a shooter. Where is Hard Reset, Pain Killer, Far Cry..?
My biggest problem with the list is that NOLF should be #1.

FEAR is one of my favorite shooters of all time along with Crysis. Both get a lot of shit for reasons I will never understand.

I think I can understand some people dislike of Crysis 1 even though I don't agree with it (Its just a bland, uninspired, FPS made to show off GRAFIXS, Half-Life 2 is betterz lol) But people dislike F.E.A.R. 1? I heard people going far as saying its what Doom 3 should have been :P

Yes I have heard that a thousand times. I just don't understand it. The game is full of tactical options, cool powers and wide open levels with tons of choice. If it's bland it because people played it in a bland way.

It's pretty much criminal to exclude Quake. Wolfenstein 3D invented the shooter as we know it. Doom refined it, codified it, created Deathmatch. And Quake took the multiplayer to the next level and more or less created the modding scene. Without Quake, there would be no Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, TF, what have you.
And to deny Duke Nukem 3D's greatness is to be completely ignorant. It was all about the little things- interactive environments, a vocal main character. It's all stuff we take for granted today that was such a big deal in defining the genre.
And I am really tired of people regarding Half Life as the be all end all PC FPS. Half-Life did a lot of things I didn't like. A plodding pace and linear levels aren't that great, and it pretty much set the stage for the set piece FPS that I'm so sick of.
In its defense I will say the AI was great (although definitely outmatched by F.E.A.R.) and the weapons had a good meaty feel to them.
