Alright, who's got it?
I don't have it... yet..
But once I do I'm looking forward to playing with you guys.
Today is the day it see's it's American release.
Meh.
They should release them for PC, perhaps with some ability for people to mod the graphics. Hi res sprites would be very nice...
Screenshots remind me of Zelda for SNES though, which is good.
Want.
I gave Gold to my eldest daughter as a Christmas present then bought Silver for myself sometime in January. While my daughter has put in more than 100 hours into Gold, I must say I've hardly touched Silver (perhaps around 13 hours or so).
Still, I'm surprised it's taken so long to finally see the US release. Around what? Just under a year after its release here? There's no way it took that long to localize the content especially knowing Nintendo's usual localization process.
I'm not much of a Pokemon fanatic, but if I decide to I'll get gold, since that was the one that I glitched. =)
Must have. Best Pokémon generation of the bunch...
I preordered the french version, meanwhile i'm playing the english version... by other "means".
I'll be buying it for sure.
Now that the best Pokemon game ever has been re-released for a new audience I wonder how Nintendo can possibly compete with this with the fifth generation; with the GBA games they dropped most of the excellent features introduced with GSC, but they got away with that because it was on new hardware; if the fifth generation is still on the DS it might just be built on top of the HG/SS base.
So...is this particular game noob-friendly? I always wanted to try a Pokemon game, but I heard that the latest editions are much more complicated than the GB-era Pokemons...

The core gameplay of any is still the same - the DS versions just added a few mini games as well as some nice team up modes. For a new play perfectly approachable - it only gets "hard core" if you try to get serious about playing other human opponents online and wnat a good ranking.
The DS re-releases of Silver and Gold are great - Like many I regard them as some of hte best pokemon games. Its the core fun parts of the game and the creature design is still mostly based on animal sources - unlike many newer ones which are more like armies of animated teddybears ;).
As I understand it the DS re-release has some nice new features and additions, but nothing that should make too hard for a new player
Silver and Gold were the best Pokemon, the high point of the series before the Leaf-Green and Fire-Red remakes and now these. After Silver and Gold the actual Pokemon got way too many and way too gay, even for kids. Heck there were so many pokemon that you never saw any of the original ones again like Ekans or Rattata, in the later games you see the thing that looks like a coon instead of Rattata. So miserable I really forgot the later games.
I shall be looking for these on Rom sites since I sold my DS a few months back. Sad, almost wish I had my rom-chip and DS back but I never played it after I beat Contra and Kirby Super-Star so...................

I think he's talking about natures, IVs/EVs, and all that other crap that the powergamers/tournament players/etc. like to center on.
It sure has changed a lot since I was into it in the late 1990s. Got out of it a few years after for some reason (heck, I started to avoid ANYTHING resembling a Mons franchise), but started warming up to it again recently. (Just the games, though.)
However, what's to convince me to go plunk down precious funds on remakes of games I already have? (Unless someone wants to buy my original Gold and Crystal carts with replaced SRAM batteries, anyway...)
If you are only going to be playing single player with maybe a match or two on the side with friends the EV/IV/shininess/etc. can be ignored completely. Getting them tweaked correctly requires a significant time investment and careful calculation that simply doesn't matter for single player and casual multiplayer. The only aspect you might want to be picky about is gender, but even that only matters for breeding or to assist/counter certain gender-based moves, and in both cases you easily can get around this in various ways.
I've been playing this a bunch lately, anyone up for any trades or anything?
