TheJoe: If you're interested in touching things, the Wadjet Eye preorder gets you a big box, but it's $25 which I *think* includes postage.
It includes postage, but not VAT so it's $29.99 for you and me. Still getting it though, I got the disc versions of Gemini Rue and Blackwell Deception.
As nice as a big box is, I'm a little sad that this won't fit next to my other Wadjet Eye DVD cases.

I also see the big box includes a Steam key. I wish we had a choice between a Steam key and a GOG key. Oh well.
Pre-ordered. Really like the AGS games by Vince and was following the Resonance development for a long time, but never expected it to appear on GOG, thanks guys!

Well you do get to download it from Wadjet, which is something, I guess. GOG doesn't really have "keys" for games yet, beyond gift keys which require an actual transaction to take place, and bonus vouchers that only act as store credit.
I wonder if it has something to do with the book. That was an incredible book but would make for a confusing transition to a game :)
That's great, I was about to send the author an e-mail to ask him if the game would be available DRM-free somewhere... guess I got my answer :)

MichaelPalin: Just out of curiosity, do all of the games from these guys one-problem-one-solution kind of graphical adventures or I can play them without getting stuck every half an hour. I really would like to give GA an opportunity, but unless they evolve to something more dynamic (I'm not talking about action or spectacle) I just cannot put myself play them.
Puzzles are actually very logical in Resonance, none of that cat hair business. Plus there are several mechanisms to ensure people won't get stuck - you'll have four characters who can ask each other for suggestions, and there's a list of important events viewable in flashbacks.

Seriously, this game is awesome. I won't say "teh best game evar" (because "best game evar" just doesn't exist), but it is the best adventure in GOG's catalogue as of now.

Yes, Wadjet games breathe quality all over. Nice catch, GoG. This game is based on AGS, which also has a Linux(x86) and a Mac(in Beta) version. The great thing about that is that you can just install the engine for your OS, copy the game files and you can play the game natively.
Preordered.

Yeah, and Wadjet Eye games have always been DRM-free so the only real reason I'd like it on GOG is for shelf-OCD.

They're DRM-free on his own site anyway and have always been AFAIK. ;)

Pretty sure the only place they're not DRM-free is Steam.

Lafazar: It's also a question of cost. It's much cheaper to do graphics in this style that still look good ("good" for this particular style of graphics, that is). These games are made on ridiculously low budgets. That's the result of being indie.

Personally I love this style of graphics, but if you can't look past this, then so be it. I think it's better games like this are being made under the heavy budget constraints of indie development than not being made at all.
Actually I'm still thinking about it. I like the style of the game in general. My comment was based on what looks like a game that somebody put a lot of love and care into with a good story and attention to detail and I was surprised by the low res graphics on a present day creation.
I never thought that it might be cheaper to make it this way. That would explain it.

Sprite animation particularly gets more and more time consuming the higher the resolution. Also the higher the resolution, the more frames of animation you seem to need.

Monkey Island Special Edition suffered from this in my opinion. Although it's much higher resolution, the walking animation has the same number of frames as the original and looks much choppier (to me) than it did in the original.

Pixel art has actual value as an art style in adventure games, much like manga in comics. It conveys emotions better while keeping things serious, effectively symbolizing a photorealistic image (whether existing or imagined by the player).

It's easier to associate a human face with a pixellized character than with a high-res cartoon. (Quite a number of visual gags were based on the realistic/cartoonish dissociation.)

(Note that the graphics are true color, which effectively rules out unintentional pixel-hunting - and there's no intentional pixel-hunting.)

Yes, but given how "enthusiast" about Steam the recent e-mails from the dev where I was starting to worry that Resonance would end up being Steam-only.

Leroux: But I can't guarantee that you won't get stuck as some point, because it is one-problem-one-solution, and also quite linear. However, if you get stuck every half hour, that would probably only add up to only about 3 times during the game, considering their short length. ;)
Hi! Developer of Resonance here!

I just wanted to say that I did my best to provide multiple solutions to the harder puzzles in the game and that there were optional paths and puzzles to explore. There's also the built-in hint system (you can ask the other characters for advice, and they'll nudge you in the right direction), so this should help you not feel like you're stuck for too long!

Also, while most adventure games these days are pretty short, Resonance is not! My most recent play-through took me 11 hours. I'm guessing it's around 12 hours for a first time player if you don't lean on a walthrough.

Regarding the graphics, I think once you're playing the game and see them in beautiful motion, you'll fall in love with the retro aesthetic! If you don't, let me know and I'll do my best to make it up to you!

And on a personal note, I've been working on this game for over five years now and am super excited to team up with Wadjet Eye games and GoG to bring you this high-quality game! Thanks!

Thanks for popping onto the forums to give some insight. I've already preordered it and I really look forward to seeing what five years of creation looks like. Cheers for choosing GOG!
