Some time ago, Catalyst Game Labs stopped releasing their Battletech Introductory Box Sets because rumour had it that a new one was in the works. Details are finally out, and CGL is taking pre-orders, along with a pretty sweet deal:

Introductory Box Set Available For Preorder, And For A Short Time A Cool Deal!

The reprint of the BattleTech Introductory Box Set has finally hit the US port and so we’re making pre-orders available immediately! As soon as it clears customs and hits our warehouse we’ll provide a Street Date for when it’ll be available to stores as well.

However, don’t forget that this isn’t just a reprint. While all the printed material is the same, we spent the time and resources to hugely increase the quality of the 24 miniatures. So while they are the same BattleMech designs, the quality increase is shockingly awesome! And to top it off, we switched out the previous Thor and Loki for the re-seen BattleMaster and of course the seminal Mad Cat! Below is a quick photo of the quality from the previous box set (top) and the new quality (bottom):

In fact, we’re so excited about having this, the best yet version of the BattleTech Introductory Box Set available again, we’re offering a limited time offer. Buy two sets and we’ll ship you a complete extra set of the plastic miniatures: that includes both the 24 miniatures as well as the on-the-sprues Mad Cat and BattleMaster.

Feel free to check out the BattleBlog that contains a pile of photos of the new contents, especially focusing on the miniatures (we’ll work on generating even more focused photos in the near future).

Time to get your heavy metal mayhem on, now with the tools to introduce all your friends!
Should interest quite a few people here, though I'm curious as to the quality of the plastic used. Each mini roughly comes up to $1.50 with this pre-order deal.

Bump for potentially interested parties who missed this news.
How the hell did I miss this? >:(

Are they accepting preorders outside the US? sorry, my workplace's proxy is blocking that address
Dang, now I need a new box :P The models in the old one were rather crummy (apart from the 2 high quality Clan ones, which were quite good). On the other hand, it would seem like they've increased the price of the new set by quite a bit. Part of the reason why the old one was so good was because it was in an entirely different (lower) price range than the competitors, which made it a very attractive thing to pick up for people who were on the fence when it came to the whole miniature wargame thing.
I had the first Box Set, the one with the paper map, and I sold it to get the 25th anniversary box (which I couldn't find afterwards). So I was really looking forward to this one; I check BoardGameGeek on a daily basis and this news have apparently slipped by somehow.
How I wish my friends weren't lame as all hell and would actually play a tabletop game for once.

HOW ARE YOU NOT BORED WITH CALL OF FUCKING DOODIE!?!?
Seems legit.

Ya the news didn't reach a lot of sites that I frequent too. I only got to know about this via Tabletop Gaming News.

It's a really sweet deal though, the '2 for 1' thing. I don't know if I'll still be so inclined to preorder without this offer.
Curses! I was about to have a look at the pre-order page again today, when I came across this:

Missed it by just a few days! :(
Finally I decided not to jump into the 2x1 offer, it was too expensive for me. But I already have my copy reserved at my online retailer, can't wait to put my hands on it.

Meanwhile, have a look at some close shots showing the old & improved miniatures side by side:

it's really amazing. With this new quality sculpts, they might as well start releasing plastic mech packs at a very competitive price.
And now that I saw it, I want it so badly and will order it today. Didnt play for some years, but started like 25 years ago and I still love it and read my old Technical Readouts, sourcebooks and novels ;)

53 €
Got my box today for under 50€ and on the first glance I have to say very good quality. Even the box is quite heave and well built. Time for my daughter to learn Battletech ;)
