That's because those running our economy are of the impression that we're all FIFO workers making squillions in the mines... buying up multiple McMansions...

The penny is going to drop sooner or later that Australia is pretty much fucked... just like the rest of the world...
Every time I go grocery shopping it is obvious that this is happening. And it's gotten a lot worse recently, because the 2 major grocery chains decided to change suppliers / inventory, and so now the selection is much worse and they're running out of everyday items (usually the higher-quality brands).

It feels like the beginning of food shortages. It's irritating, and a little bit frightening that despite the many large grocery stores nearby I am having so much trouble finding the food items I'm looking for.

Oh, and don't get me started on clothing prices.

Yikes, $15 for a HD remake of a NES game? I could buy Blood Dragon or Gunslinger for that price!

Oh sorry, it's a "remastered reimagining", so i guess I used the wrong "re" word, I should have gone with "retarded". Regardless of currency conversion I'd only consider that game if they dropped $10 off the price.

Sorry for the OT rant, being an Aussie I of course have many a pricing shenanigans story. It all boils down to this though, some publishers are bloody greedy and some publishers aren't.
Check out SteamPrices.com. This lets you easily see how much you're being charged for your region compared to other regions.
I'd rather be victim to a large number of pricing hikes on Steam than be victim to the "bugger off, we don't want your money" trend which we get instead T_T

hedwards: Does that include import duties? I've heard that Brazil has some of the worst duties of any major nation.

Still, I'm not sure whether you're getting a better or worse deal over all.

Did you even read the original post? Nowhere in the original post does it say that the DVD set was a download.

If you're going to act like I'm stupid, the least you could do is read the post.

You may have misunderstood. Duck Tales Remastered is a new game published by Capcom, not a DVD. If you're talking about another DVD in a later post then please disregard this.
Tonight I was ordering some food from Omaha Steaks online and during checkout they offered me an amazing deal for two 2.5 oz. lobster tail halves at a huge discount off their normal price of 90 bucks for only 20 bucks!

20 bucks for fucking lobster tail is laughable to begin with but that normal price of 90? Who the fuck do they think they are shitting? Hell, for 20 I can go out and get twin lobsters cooked up for me with all the fixins. That's supposed to be a killer deal? Well, I guess if you believe that crap about a tail being worth 90 bucks then 20 seems pretty good.

Depending on my mood I sometimes laugh and I sometimes rage about stuff like this but it is everywhere. Nobody will just be honest, just be straight with you. This is why I feel that marketing people generally are the scum of the earth.

Sad thing is, if they were offering it for a regular price of $20 (or $15) and no discount, they'd sell a lot less because a lot of people only look at the discount, not the final price, and would thus go to their competitor who has a regular price of $40 with a 50% discount.

By now it's become so prevalent that even if you (as a store owner) dislike such practice, you pretty much have to adopt it or go out of business.

If a game's available on both GOG and Steam, I generally find that if I convert the price on GOG to pounds, it works out as significantly cheaper than the Steam price. Generally it's somewhere around 1/10 of the original price off. I've always been left slightly confused by why people say the prices are better on Steam, but now with the link to SteamPrices someone posted earlier in the thread, it seems like the US prices of Steam are the same as those of GOG...Examples I've seen both of these phenomena in include Eador MotBW, Don't Starve, and SS2.

Well, ultimately all it's doing is reaffirming my decision to buy from GOG if at all possible...
Compared to some, you're almost entirely unaffected.

I know. I don't have a problem with paying more. If two US$15 games cost me US$17, I'd understand. It's the fact that one costs US$11 and the other US$17 that bothers me, because it makes zero sense.
