I think you can tell "your friend" no.

to iterate. To be in a Battleground you need to be in a realm, same as with the dungeons finder. If you are on a private server, you are not allocated to a realm and can therefore not enter a battleground (or find people for instances through the dungeon finder)

Check out dalaran wow. They're the most blizzard like server out there, and their new realm algalon is going to have everything that blizzard does. their server right now has a great community and most pvp contemt running.
