I have this pictures which I need to identify those 2 games - I've already tried several forums but no luck. Being a site mostly dedicated to old games I have much faith in this place :)

The bottom one isn't that old. It's Space Giraffe by Jeff Minter.

Which is why I'm not sure if the top one is a cutscene / intro or not. I might be thinking it is just because of all the compression looking like video compression.

I'm not sure if that's from MoO2, since I haven't played it, but if not for someone posting that so definitely, I would have sworn that's an ingame screenie from Homeworld - the first one. That looks 'zactly like the carrier ship / fighter formation I used all the time on that game, with support ships to boot.

I would have said Homeworld on the top pic too.
