When I download and install a game does it open through a program similar to something like Steam? Or does it go into it's own folder? I know this sounds like a stupid question and I'm sorry but I am just curious.

No client, it will get its own folder and you can decide which folder that will be. It will run completely independent from GOG once you've downloaded it.
Can you add shortcuts in Steam for the games you download from GOG? That would be sweet.

Apparantly you can. I'm no expert on the features of Steam, I only just created an account there last week and have never done this before but when tried adding a link to one of my GOG games to the games library just now, it worked.
Awesome, thanks for all the info :)

You can add every GOG game to Steam. Games that use DOSBox and ScummVM can be tricky, though.

You'll need to do this:

DOSBox

Target: "<dosbox install location> -conf <gogDosBox.conf>"

Example: G:\Games\DOSBox\dosbox.exe -conf dosboxBAK.conf

Start In: "<GOG install location>"

Example: "G:\Games\GOG.com\Betrayal Pack\Betrayal at Krondor"

ScummVM

Erm... I don't use GOG's Scumm settings, but how I do it is this:

Target: "<scummvm install location> <scumm profile>"

Example: "G:\Games\ScummVM\scummvm.exe" sky

Start In "<scummvm install location>"

Example: "G:\Games\ScummVM"

You can get a list of Scumm profile names at their website.
