Which Guild game is the best? If there is not one that is a definitive "best" then which one would you recommend for a person starting the series? '

I haven't played the first one but i played the heck out of the guild 2, of that and all it's standalone expansions i prefer renaissance, it streamlines a lot of the more mundane things and allows for a super long 1 year-per-day setting (it's normally 4 years-per-day) which suits my playstyle.

I still prefer the very first, before it became the gold edition (whole game changed)...

But all of them are great ;)

I have been told to get Guild 2: Renaissanceand not bother with any of the other Guild 2 games. Is that good advice?

As I recall, each expansion contains all the previous expansions as well. So since Renaissance is the last expansion, it already contains the base game and the other expansions. Why buy them again?

The Guild 2 renaissance is the best in the series, really.

As for the first one, it's a bit... outdated, to say it gently.
