I was wondering if anyone out there has found any hacks/mods/etc that will allow me to use widescreen resolutions in the Vanilla Icewind Dale with no Expansion Packs. There is a hack on the gibberlings3 site for Widescreen, but it only works w/ IWD + HoW[++] and not the vanilla game - on my screen [1366x768] the default 640x480 looks pixelated as heck and I get the black borders on either side - not game killing (the game play is much more important that beauty) but I would love an option to get rid of those black borders without stretching the game to heck and back.
Any ideas out there? Found a whole bunch of my older games and been working on getting them running on my Windows 7 machine (even found my cd key for my original Starcraft - entering it into Battle.net gave me the whole anthology :D). IWD2 I won't have a problem with, the gibberlings patch works with Vanilla IWD2.
Thankfully my original Warcraft is DOS based so I can use DOSBox rendering settings (can't believe I found my WC 1 disk - thought it was lost years ago).
Gibberlings3 widescreen mod is the only one of its kind, as far as I know... it is an amazing achievement on its own, you really can't expect more widescreen mods :)
Also, did you try to use it? WS mod is very universal, works also on Baldur's Gate and Planescape... and since vanilla IWD1 runs on the same engine as BG1, it should work...
Hmm, you could look at GemRB. I think I remember readng mention that it can widescreen games in a similar way to the G3 mod but I've not tested it

I tried using it but the setup program fails saying that IWD1 (w/o HoW) is not supported.

Hmm - I will take a look at it, I think I read up on it but discarded it as it said something about being a re-write that not everything worked on.

There is a solution to the 'black borders' problem, but I doubt that you can find a widescreen mod for vanilla IWD.
Phrase your thread titles better, please! Now I have "Ice, ice, baby" playing in my mind, and it won't go away! :-(

At least you haven't got the terrible ISA (savings account) advert that seems to be on all the time at the moment 'ISA ISA baby'. Yes it's bloody annoying.
Back (sort of ) on topic I found my Icewind Dale & Baulders Gate boxes the other day. I was going to reinstall Baulders Gate for a bit of nostalgia but it turns out I've lost disk one, doh! I'd forgotten how many disks that game came on, and that stupid card fold out case that they would ALWAYS fall out of.

Discs go immediately into CD storage cases ;-) I am amazed at the Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape generation of games. They all install and run fine even on 64 bit Vista.

Just about everything works (that is, Planescape and Icewind Dale 2 are pretty buggy still, but the other games should be almost fully functional). GemRB won't do non-standard resolutions by itself though, you'll need the extra files from the widescreen mod.
