If you like sitcoms, check out one that was short lived but brilliantly hilarious, Better Off Ted. I don't know if it's available in Canada, just that it is in the U.S. Although only 26 episodes were ever made, it is probably my favorite sitcom of all time.

deshadow52: Also keep in mind I live in Canada so what I have available is totally different to what other places have. I heard that the difference between Canadian and American Netflix are pretty different because they get a lot more.
The selection in Canada is probably still 100 times better than the Netflix selection here. I saw mostly just same series and movies that I had already seen on free TV channels here. And sometimes Netflix had even less, e.g. having only the first season for some TV series that was already running on its third or fourth season on the free TV channels. Pitiful.

Apparently Netflix saw that as a problem for luring new users, so it seems they have now simply removed the ability to check what movies and series there are available, unless you are already their customer. At least I can't find the list of shows anymore on netflix.fi.

Some have a workaround for the selection problem, and have somehow fooled Netflix to let them show also the US shows. But then you naturally lose any local subtitles, but even worse, no HD.

Oh well, I don't seem to have enough free time anyway. I rather use it on e.g. gaming, and I still see lots of movies and TV shows from the free channels, more than I have time watching.
Does anyone have a list of availablity with filters depending on the country you are in? That would likely make it easier to recommend any content.
Firefly is worth waiting for. Even though it was - tragically - unfinished, it is more than worth it for what was made: it's like watching a dream, and even that one partial year will never, ever, go away. It's some of Joss Whedon's best work, unforgettable and vivid.

Another favorite of mine, which might have been more known had it not come out in major release the weekend after 9/11, is a weird sci-fi rom-com called "Happy Accidents," starring Vincent D'Onofrio and Marisa Tomei. It's a silly funny lovely film that is far less familiar than it should be.
Absolutely second Firefly/Serenity. Another Top recommendation is Sherlock from BBC. Great show with fantastic characters and actors.
Here are some good TV Shows on Netflix Canada:

Bones
How I met your mother
Doctor Who
Arrested Development (I did not like season 4, the one made by Netflix)
Stargate SG-1
Hemlock Grove
The Guild
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Being Human (The UK version, they lost me in season 4)
The IT Crowd
Ripper Street
Murdoch Mysteries
Sherlock
Fringe
Not part of your genres but I can't help it.

Raging Bull is a really good movie, one of Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro's best.

West Side Story is another great movie aswell.
Crime Drama - any of the BBC Mysteries (Endeavor, Linley, Lewis), Jack Taylor
Fantasy - Troll Hunter (if you don't mind subtitles)
Thriller - Dragon (subtitled), Detective Dee (subtitled), D13 U (subtitled) (I ran out of good english thrillers)
