With Master of Magic on sale, I'm thinking about purchasing it. I don't know much about the game, so I'm a bit clueless about if I'm going to like it or not. The screenshots tell me it's similar to Civilization (which I like) and also Heroes of Might and Magic/Age of Wonders (which, while I don't dislike those games, I'm a bad player in both games).

So basically, could someone explain me how the game plays, if it's more similar to Civilization or to HoMM, so I can decide if purchase it or no. I know it's 2 dollars, but I already purchased some games on sale right now with a limited budget and I want to know if I should take the risk or not.

Thanks in advance.

It's basically a fantasy version of Civ, but with the combat being more similar with Master of Orion 2 than with HOMM . Otherwise, the management and stuff is almost identical to Civ .
Its mostly like Age of Wonders which is a remake. But the city management is a mix between Civ and Master of Orion 2. The race creation is similar to Master of Orion 2 as well, same designer.
Warlock Master of the Arcane is also very similar, another remake.
It is more like Civilization than HoMM or AoW, though you can tell that the people who made AoW in particular probably were fans of Master of Magic. But mainly if you enjoy Civ, you'll probably like MoM as well.
Research is more similar to that of AoW, but city management & map movement is more similar to Civ. Combat is also a bit AoW-y, but not identical.

Confused yet? XD

I myself am keeping the sale simple: roller coasters, bombers, and pirates!

Ok, so I will purchase the game. If city management is similar to Civilization much better. For some reason I can't enjoy the management in Age of Wonders, I always run out of resources no matter what I do.

Thank you very much!

Aw, why not heroes and hell hounds? I know it may not be your type of game but it's great fun and I would hate to see you miss out if it gets pulled.

It's only two bucks after all

By "not be your type of game" you must mean that it requires actual thinking to play and I stopped doing that as soon as I finished college. :D

I always get confused between Master of Magic and Lords of Magic myself!
