I managed to actually confuse Xenonauts with , an open-source X-COMish game for PC and Android. And speaking of X-COM inspired games, there's also that freeware [url=http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/News]UFO: AI.

What about randomly generated missions? X-Com is a good example of this with a somewhat randomized battle zone every time, with the player deciding on their objectives short of the complete elimination of enemies.

I was reading about Hammer & Sickle. That game apparently has dynamic campaigns with the entire game story changing as you play. That sounds cool.

I have Jagged Alliance 1 and 2 so will be playing more of those over Christmas. I hope GOG gets the first X-Com game some day as I don't use Steam and the ones GOG does have look quite different due to being pausable real-time. The open source remakes look worth investigating though so thanks for those links.

In a way it's good that the genre isn't too saturated because I've been looking to work on my own TBT style game recently and it's always best to make a game you actually want to play yourself!
