Are any of you Red vs. Blue fans? I remember watching the series when I was little, and was just reminded of them by a friend. It looks like they just finished Season 8. Has anyone else watched up to that point, and if so, how does it compare to the original 5 seasons?
I'm a huge fan of Red vs Blue.

It's some of the funniest material available as entertainment right now, in my opinion. It is also, bar none, the best voice acting I've ever heard in how unforced it sounds coming from the voice talents. It is incredible.

With this last season, they're doing motion capture (I believe) original CG animations, instead of using the Halo game itself, and they have created two of the most original, funny, and astonishing fight sequences I have ever seen outside of a Jackie Chan film.

It's a glorious series, and one I'll be owning the DVD collection as soon as I find out whether the new DVD releases are in HDTV as well as the release of their original seasons.

I can't give it enough praise.

Yeah, I saw that trailer and my mouth dropped to the floor a little. It's amazing how far they've come from cutting the bottom off the screen so people wouldn't see the gun of the cameraman.
RvB is still going on? Could have sworn I watched the series finale a few years ago.

Ah well, yay.
I never could stand it.

I can completely understand that. I've learned recently that humor is pretty divisive, and even humor I find crappy (like Scrubs) has an audience who thinks its the best thing in the world. I hate 2 and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory, yet I've met plenty of people who love those shows.

By the same token, I enjoy Nostalgia Critic and my brother hates it. He also hates Homestar Runner and Mega64.
Yea, The Guild is also an acquired taste. When someone comes up to me and says "Seinfeld is overrated." I can understand that. It seems at first as to only be good for a chuckle. But it's so quotable, that it factors into my everyday life, and I quote that show like 4 times a day unintentionally.
I hate this, and I hate The Guild, and I hate almost all of these webseries things about video games. I guess I never liked Halo enough to think it would be cool to put unfunny bullshit in the multiplayer maps.

I liked some of it, but then it got too serious and I got bored so I don't watch it anymore.
I love the idea, and I'm all for it, but I watched the first 20 episodes or so recently, and I think the humor is just terrible. I mean, I still like watching what they think of doing with the limitations inherent in their medium, but in general I think it's childish and boring. There are many children's shows that I really like and don't consider "childish," but Red vs. Blue is definitely "childish" in a way that I really don't like.

I'm not doing a very good job of explaining why I don't like it. I really want to like it, but I just don't.
I wonder if I get more joy out of it because I served in the military, and there are a lot of parallels in how some people act. Hey, Shipwreck is a similar series, and I get a lot of enjoyment out of that as well.

Hard to say.

Oh, I completely understand what you're trying to say. Maybe "sophmoric" would be a better term (if I spelled that correctly). One of the characters is constantly looking for ways to pick up chicks, and he handles his search in a most immature manner ("You can't pick up chicks in a tank!") Also, the guy in the pink armor starts to inherit feminine tendencies, one girl is repeatedly called a slut for no reason, the red team walks in on the blue team in an awkward position (one of the blues has to switch off a robot's "dongle" located on his crotch, and it looks like he's performing oral sex), "Bow Chicka Wow-Wow" is used in regularity in later seasons of Blood Gulch (to be fair, I think they were using it before those stupid Old Spice ads), teammates are regularly picked on in a way that makes it seem okay to do so (in particular Grif is the constant punching bag of the Red team), they poke fun at Mexican culture with Lopez, teammates are constantly commenting on how much they would enjoy killing each other because of a simple bone-headed mistake, the Caboose character is your typical "Durr, I'm stupid" comic foil found in countless forms of media, and so on.

Listing all these flaws may make it seem like the series is stupid, but I love it (not that I condone many of the actions characters take). It reminds me of why I love It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Terrible people doing terrible things to each other and innocent bystanders.

I can also tell you that the early seasons are much more immature than the newer stuff. A couple of the guys are now parents, and their humor is classier now. Also, the animation, filming techniques, and acting have improved drastically.

With that said, it's also easy to see why some people may be turned off by the new Red vs. Blue. They came for the dick and fart jokes, and won't tolerate "high-falootin" humor.
