Many games here on GOG uses DOSBox to be able to even run on newer OS.
Most of the time the pre-configured *.CONF files doesn't appeal to me and I'd like to change some settings.
However, there are a few CONF files for each game and it confuses me. Which one is okay to config and which one isn't?

I tried to configure the CONF's for Shadow Warrior and ended up having the game not to boot at all.
This question / problem has been solved by SirPrimalformimage
I usually edit only the dosbox(gamename).conf

It's also the bigger *.conf file...

The .conf files are indeed messy lately. =(
Not really messy, just not what I wanted.

So I can configurate the dosbox<game>.conf just fine then?

Yes... well, if you know what you doing... ;p

Edit: I also recommend Notepad++ to edit the files... (they're always messed up on notepad for me..)

You can check which is the relevant one to edit by looking at the shortcut you use to launch the game. Go into its properties and look at its 'target'. The name of the .conf file being loaded will be referenced there.

Actually, it'll lists more than one .conf file... I guess it depends on the game.

Oops, I flagged this thread as solved but it ain't. You're right Stooner, it does depends on the game.
Take Blood for example, its target leads me to an autoexec that if changed caused the game not run at all.
So be careful everyone.

Yeah, I think Crusader: No Remorse gave me another *.conf (together with *simple.conf and game.conf) , for mounting the game disc.

The Latest updated SuperFrog's Conf was split, now you have a dosboxSF.conf and dosboxSF_single.conf. Still not really sure why they did it. As the dosboxSF_single.conf only contain the autoexec from the V1 installer version

Is so many configurations really needed...?

There is only one main configuration - rest are just autoexec parts for different modes (single / host / client). That way, if you want to change anything (cycles, scaler, etc.) you don't have to do it separately for single / multi games.
