Have you ever been trapped in a nightmare?

Amnesia: The Dark Descent, a gripping first-person perspective horror story full of mystery, darkness, and demons lurking in the shadows inducing a constant sense of dread, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 only for the first 48 hours, to get your DRM-free copy!

Thousands of pages have been written on the anatomy of fear. It's one of the most basic emotions shaping the human psyche and dictating our actions. But how many of us actually know fear? Not the tingling sensation that something's wrong and you should be worried, but actual terror that's caused by constant, lethal, and very real, yet unfamiliar threat. This is a game that, according to many, comes as close to inducing that state, as possible for a computer game. Praised for its gripping atmosphere, perfect pacing, and involving gameplay, it's one of the most prominent--in not the most prominent--modern achievements in terror fiction.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent puts you in a situation with no escape and the only thing you can do is to push forward, deeper into the nightmare that's becoming more morbid and terrifying by the minute. You will find yourself exploring a half-ruined castle, that witnessed many acts of madness and inhumane cruelty. Deprived of all memories, hunted by spawns of evil, forced to behold sights that shatter your sanity, you will venture into the darkness with no real hope of ever emerging victorious. Mixing a fascinating story, terrifying setting, and well-executed design, this title deserves a place in every horror fan collection.

Are you ready to inject your mind with an excess dose of poisonous terrors? Empty your bladder, switch off the lights, put on your headphones, and throw yourself head-first into Amnesia: The Dark Descent, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The 75% discount offer lasts until Saturday, July 27, at 9:59AM GMT.

cw8: I bought this game at launch.

I'm still at level 1. 3 years later.
Is this you?

In my earlier critical mindset, I didn't even think about how how much it was desired by the community. And lo and behold, there are nearly 1400 votes for it on the wishlist, even more than Brutal Legend. So I do need to say, well done in that regard, GOG.

And it appears that the OST is only being sold in Frictional Games' store, unfortunately, but I'm guessing the music files can be found amongst the installed files.
"Integrated Intel cards are not supported."
Damnit.

That's true, my friend. I have retail version, but I simply couldn't give it a pass at this price. One more horror adventure on my shelf :)

SangHee: Still, I don't see a reason to release the games in predetermined intervals. It's not going to help sales since people aren't gonna buy games they don't want (I know I don't). The sooner they release the desired games the sooner they start selling.

JinseiNGC224: Nothing needs to be pre-determined. It was just a guesstimation on my part for coming up with that, and I never said it was accurate. But I went with GOG's trend toward consistency. But there's always someone who enjoys a game they release. While there's more than a few games here with lower ratings (3 or lower), most are above that mark because people love the games that come out here.... I know I do! There's only a handful of games I would never buy, but then I do have very broad, deep tastes.
I know what you meant, I was just relieving my frustration over some of my most desired games not released yet. :D

I understand that very well :D

I've scored a lot of games I either missed out on or played way back in the day, but there are just so many I never got to play, it's mind boggling. By the time GOG get's to release most or all the games I'd like to see here, they'll be at the 2,000 mark or more (as in a very long time from now).

To be fair, calling them GPUs is being rather optimistic. The performance has never been very good compared with real chipsets.

if your card supports Open GL 2.0+ you should be fine. You may check the demo to make sure.

Another one of those times where it seems strange that GOG doesn't have the soundtrack. In this instance because the Humble release included it.

That said, what's up with the "short story collection" that GOG is promoting as Bonus Content? Was that included in the Humble release? Is it otherwise freely available or is it exclusive to GOG?

No idea how to check that (google didn't help). It's an Intel HD 4000 card, if that helps.

You may use this utility:

but really, the best test would be to download the demo:

http://www.amnesiagame.com/#demo

I was incorrect, btw. Amnesia requires OpenGL 2.1

Use this at your own risk. Intel's page says that the card you list supports OpenGL 4.0.

Again, this does NOT mean that the game may work or that we support it on those particular cards. Hope that helps.

Haha! Let's blow a champagne when they bring out the ones we want! It will be a small holiday!
I hope more people will find their way into the Request Game section and vote!

Thank you. Think I'll follow keeveek's suggestion and try the demo to make sure.
I guess it's nice that Amnesia is finally here, but is there anyone left who is even remotely interested in survival horror and doesn't own this yet?
