Bad influence. Just like the Roadrunner cartoons.

, the infamous adventure game exploring the darkest corners of human psyche and boasting graphic violence in the best tradition of b-movies, is available in its uncensored version on GOG.com, for only $5.99. Our exclusive interview with Lee Jacobson, the game's producer, can be found in the [url=http://gogcom.tumblr.com/post/78954868646/harvester-interview]GOG.com Official Blog.

Remember, this is all just a game. You'll play as the amnesiac Steve (who is such a kidder!) as you try to figure out why you should join the Order of the Harvest Moon and discover the horror that lurks just beneath Harvest's small-town veneer. Meet some of the strangest characters to ever grace the computer screen--such as Mr. Pottsdam who really, really loves red meat or Colonel Monroe who guards the nuclear missile base and holds The Button. Harvest is a lovely town and the locals aim to keep it that way, no matter the cost...

Harvester is believed by some to be the inspiration for establishing the Entertainment Software Rating Board, as the game's first public showing at 1994 CES caused enough controversy to take the debate over violence in games to a whole new level. This title takes every possible opportunity to throw gore and graphic violence at the player. It wasn't, however, designed only to shock the audience. It's trippy story taking off in small-town America and touching down in mass-murderville can easily be attributed with a deeper meaning. How dark is the darkness at the bottom of the human soul? In its own campy, over-the-top way, this unique title looks for the answer to that question. With traditional puzzle-oriented point-and-click gameplay, live-action sequences, and characters portrayed by real-life actors, this nearly 20 year old game is still more than enjoyable. That is, if you can stomach the gore.

If you want to see a game that would never have a chance to be made in modern times, you really need a copy of Harvester, for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

PS. The GOG.com team would like to heartlily thank our long-time user and supporter, tfishell, whose help in securing the release rights for this title was invaluable!
I never heard of this game. It looks good.

Shambhala: Well, now that I finished it I wanted to thank you once again for letting me discover this game that else I would have probably overlooked.
I hope I'll be able to give something back next time!
no problem :) I wish I had time to play it... maybe next week... :D

tfishell: I just now tweeted https://twitter.com/ParallaxStudio/. You could try, too, or actually send a message via http://www.darkstarstore.com/contact.
You should get a honorary Blue title for all this work :)

Novotnus: I say we need to try to make this one come to GOG :)

A digital download of Darkstar was and is sold only by StrategyFirst, figured they have some sort of exclusivity deal?
Thankfully it's DRM-free there, but the download speeds are pretty terrible (or "were" about a year ago). Such an undertaking deserves a wider release for sure, fingers crossed.

Novotnus: If we count that time in development, it fits for a classic :)
Now that is the kind of stretch I can get behind :P

Gonchi: Yoomurjak’s Ring comes to mind too, kind of flew under the radar for a lot of people.
Definitely, similar case, really could use a wider release. More so even than Darkstar, since the DVDs are hard to come by at this point I think. And the digital version as far as I know is only available on the AdventureShop?

Instabuy for me... I remember playing this when I was a teen, it's sick and quirky but I love the gore and that Lynch atmosphere in the town.
My bro lost the game a long time ago by giving it to someone, I've been waiting something like 15 years to play it again...

you guys made my day, thanks a lot for this release
Pretty sure Mortal Kombat was the reason the ESRB was created.
The second part of the interview with Gilbert Austin is now published! (In case you don't know who Gilbert is: he is the one who directed and wrote Harvester!)

I'm not sure but it seems to me that they have had a new actor of Dan Dan after Gilbert quit the show so if you want to be sure you'll see Gilbert acting then watch the old episodes.
