Yesterday, I was imagining this game being released on GOG.com, and here it is. I think I might have some fortune-telling skills. :)
I remember when the game was originally released on the PC, my then main machine, a laptop with a powerful DX7 GPU, could run the game, but it was sooooooo slow (Framerate) that I felt huge disappointment in how fast my very expensive and good for other games laptop, was not powerful enough.

The game remains beautiful to look at even though, naturally, the graphics are not as good as a more modern game. The lighting effects are still great and the gameplay is solid enough if you like stealth games.

serpantino: I love having the 2 price brackets but I'd justify this at the $9.99 price well before I'd justify Thief costing the same (It's not really worth that, it's just riding on it's fame and if it had been lesser known it would've been $5.99). However as people have said, you can get most of the whole batch around the same price. This is part of the reason why GOG should try and prioritise games that are hard to get elsewhere.

The 3 green lights in the darkness that guards can't spot thing... I think that was probably just a design decision so you knew exactly where you were in the dark and I like to tell myself it's not really there.

haydenaurion: I do have one question about this release.
When I tried the demo version awhile back and turned shadows on in the game settings the game crashed to "Blue Screen of Death" for me. I did some searching and found out that it was a known bug and possibly an ATI graphics problem if i'm not mistaken. Does anyone know if that was ever fixed or if there's a community patch that fixes the crash?
I have no idea on that specific problem, but I played through the first three Splinter Cells with ATI cards (think Radeon 8500 for all three?) and the only problems I had were sound card related.
This is a great franchise, but I'm most excited about Chaos Theory. By far the best title in the franchise IMHO. Never played Conviction due to DRM, but it sounds like the franchise went south anyway by removing stealth elements... and the timed missions in Double Agent sucked out all the fun.
Overpriced (you can get SC 1-4 all-in-one DRM free for less money over here - incl. English, German, French voice overs) and no bonus content. That's bad.

It's Ubisoft, so the price is expected. Just look at their whole catalogue and you'll get the picture.
Terribad game from an overrated series... UbiSoft stole Thief's mechanics, (see what I did there <.<), and used them in an ultra linear extreme trial and reload environment, and then had the gall to call it "Stealth Action Redefined"... Pandora Tomorrow's multi is the only thing that keeps it from being just as bad as the original so I'll never understand how this series managed to survive long enough to get to Chaos Theory, which is admittedly quite good. They started slipping again with Double Agent, but at least it had a somewhat engaging, albeit predictable, story, whereas the plots in the first three titles are more effective than Ambien... Metal Gear is better, Thief is better, Tenchu is better, Hitman is better...

Note: There's a decent chance I'm whining because I wanted Blood Omen, Soul Reaver 2, or Defiance today instead of a game I felt ripped off for purchasing a decade ago -.-

I love first SC. Chaos Theory is technically way better but there is no magic for me in SCCT. May be Georgians are way more funnier and charismatic as game main enemies than japans. Oh. Spoilers, sorry ) SC1 have much more interesting music than CT. And levels. I know they are linear. But. There so much details in there - paintings, clocks etc. CT-levels are not that interesting in details.
Well, even SCCT is no match for Thief series. Well, but I am still thinking that first SC and Thief 1/2 are best examples of pure-stealth genre. I know I am prejudiced a little.
Bu I guess I will not buy SC1 again (3rd time). I mean, I already have SC on steam and have no plan to replay soon. And it is not Thief games which I bought gladly again (3rd time - 2 retails versions and GOG).
But. I definitely look into SCPT on GOG. To have a full digital access to three classic SC games (even if PT is not that good).
Don't expect this game to work on every crappy system. I have it on Steam, and it's close to unplayable on my laptop (1.3GHz Core 2 Duo, Intel 4500mhd) at minimum settings/resolution though some other UE2 games run significantly better (ex XIII.)
Come on ! Where is the french version ? I'd buy it instantly if it was there. Playing Sam Fisher with Daniel Beretta's voice is a real pleasure. The english version is of no interest to me.
Was anything done to make it work properly on modern systems? Cause shadows don't display correctly on any ATI card, and they often can't be made to show at all on modern NVidia cards. Wonder if this is the same here.

That can't be true. I played it no more than a years ago or so, and it was working great with my ATI card.

There are shadows, and I'm not sure you'd notice it if you haven't seen how some of the shadows should be, but nonetheless they are glitchy. I'll try to dig up some comparison shots I made back then.

If you're interested, the game originally uses a shadow projection method that was designed for the XboX. On the PC, this only works with a Geforce 3 or 4 series card. They added another shadowing method for other graphic cards for the PC version, but that doesn't get shadows right. Better than no shadows I admit it, but I played this game too many times on too many different hardware not to notice the difference. :)

Well, can't say I remember how it was when I had a Geforce 4, so I'll take your word for it. ^^
Now, knowing GoG, as long as the game is playable, I doubt they modified something so specific.
