already own the Steam edition. i see no reason to pick it up again.

this will be a problem with many indies to come. not only are they all on Steam already, and have been heavily discounted, many of them have been part of one of the many indie bundles. i don't buy bundles often but even i am starting to get duplicates now.

Not everyone using Steam or purchasing indie bundles .

This is a great game. Although i buyed it with the Humble Bundle, it's very nice to see it in GOG.

I've been interested in this one. Now its become more interesting.

I've been very interested in Trine (1+2) because they seem quite charming, but then I saw one GOG review call it "the modern The Lost Vikings"...

I hope not. For some reason I didn't like The Lost Vikings much, the levels didn't seem much more than some puzzle where you had to figure out how and in what order to use your vikings, before moving to the next level (puzzle). I lost interest quite fast, it just didn't do it for me for some reason.

I hope Trines are something... different? I don't know, maybe even generic platform jumping games would be fine to me, after all I did like Croc on PC quite a lot, a simple yet charming 3D platformer. And I definitely loved Another World, a "serious platform game".

It is different, it is partly puzzled based - but many of the puzzles can be approached in more the one way. It is not like the Vikings in that the character had to co-operate and you had to control each three. In Trine you always only control one character, but this can switch between the three classes. If there is a criticism it is that I found little use for the warrior. But it is a lot more platform based, less puzzle and more action based then the Vikings. I think people tend to draw this comparison just because the player can switch between three characters.

Get it, it is one of the best (and incredibly beautiful) platformers there is.

If it doesn't include the Mac (and/or Linux) version then it's better to buy it elsewhere.

Trine is different - in fact I went to this thread to disagree with Roman5.

The vikings exist separately - thus, there are two types of challenges:
1. Puzzles that center around having them go different places and either doing things in order or simultaneously (speed-switching between characters).
2. Obstacles that have you repeat the same thing three times with annoyingly differently-responsive controls.
If a viking dies, it's restart level no matter what.

In Trine, the three characters share one physical space so this doesn't happen. Once you jump to a ledge, you don't have to jump there two more times. If you decide you'd better crush an annoying skeleton with a box instead of hacking it in melee, you don't have to drag the wizard from last checkpoint (yes, every character can kill monsters). Or you can swing with a grappling hook with the thief, transform into the knight mid-flight and bash a monster with a hammer once you land. And reaching a checkpoint resurrects the dead characters.

What the two games share is the very vague idea: platformer, three characters ("with diverse abilities" is redundant information - why would you want three characters with identical abilities???). But it's physics-based (vs. cartoonish), characters displace each other (vs. being elsewhere), and it has ethical modern saves and completist-friendly achievements.

I bought Trine three times for a total of $70 because it's just that awesome.

The extras are sure nice, but who doesn't have this game yet?

Trine was on Humble Bundle in April 2011 (Frozenbyte assortment) and Sep-Oct 2011 (Frozen Synapse + beat the average and get the April stuff). Now it's nearly April again. Half a year is a long time to wait to buy a definitionally nonscarce digital product.

Also, I hope for Trine 2 here, which hasn't been released DRM-free. Why would GOG want to have Trine 2 without Trine?

(And if Joel is reading this - there should be a Trine 3 some day. It's only appropriate.)

I don't have nor have played Super Meat Boy, Machinaeriaurium, Isaac's Binding, Halo 3, Modern Warfare 3, and various others that everyone even little bit interested in gaming has bought and finished ten time already, so from my point of view they are all welcome to GOG. And frankly, I prefer to get them from only few sites, not from dozen developer sites, even if they were DRM-free there too.


However, I do own System Shock 1-2, Grim Fandango, Silver, Heavy Gear 1-2, Journeyman Project 1 (Turbo), Bad Mojo, Blade Runner, Homeworld 1-2, Carmageddon 1-.2 etc. already, so hopefully no one dares to suggest those games should come to GOG. :)
