gameon: For everything you've given to the community, it's always been fair. Thankyou Ph7, and keep up the good work. (although i wouldn't blame you if you decided to stop).
Thank you, I appreciate that =) However, I don't think any of my giveaways or simple gifts have been fair - in most cases I gift to those I want to gift to, and sometimes to those who make an effort (solving a riddle for instance) - although I've tried to gift to mutiple people rather than the same ones over and over. If I started to worry about gifting being fair I think I'd stop gifting - it'd become more of a task and thus take the fun out of it.
Reputation is but a number, and can be manipulated if one has that urge to do so. If there must be rules in giveaways, I'd suggest the holder make up something else than rep.

You can get quite a good grasp of who is a "decent" GOGger and who is not in a matter of weeks.

langurmonkey: 500 rep requirement and everyone under 500 rep is a second class GOG citizen like we new users are now?
If it makes you feel any better, i had a hard time starting off in the forums. I've had my arguments with people and crazed rants. But like TET said to me at that point "Don't sweat it, rep is just a number that is meaningless".

Agreed. I made this thread to hopefully cut down on the OT in the scammer thread and I think it worked, kinda.

edit: On second look, no not really. >_>

langurmonkey: You going to let one man ruin GOG? I bet soon this guy or these people are going to laugh their asses off at all of you. Laughing because, not only did they get away with scamming, they also ruined GOG by scaring people. Stop trading? What is next? 100 rep requirements? What is next? What will happen if one day a guy creates a bunch of ALTs , then gets them each over 100 rep to win all giveaways and people here find out? 500 rep requirement and everyone under 500 rep is a second class GOG citizen like we new users are now?

mrmarioanonym: do you realize how ridiculous you sound? You have a better solution? Not even GOG staff can help (probably). Soon trading will probably be limited to circles. Why are you so concerned about rep?
Do you realize how ridiculous you sound to me? My solution, is to not stop trading but have anyone who is not reputable, gift the games, first.

You realize that is how that person scammed me? Don't be ridiculous.

That reminds me of the member who wrote the murder mysteries and did giveaways. I was lucky enough to just about give enough evidence to win the prize.

That user was Ghorpm. He's done several of those. There are so many interesting ways of doing giveaways. And it's hard to come up with new and original ideas.

Is that any less "second class citizen"-ish?

Anyway, if you feel that rep shouldn't matter in giveaways, or that it should be no more than say 10, just go ahead and host as many giveaways as you please - no one's stopping you.

Yeah, I remember those - fiendishly hard and way out of my league - but very entertaining to follow =)

Hmmm...
If the giver wants to keep people with low rep (like me) out of their giveaways because they feel better gifting only people with a certain minimum rep, I have no problem with that.
I'd rather have the gifters feeling good about what they do than being able to enter all the giveaways.

It's not the best measure of reputation perhaps but it's definitely not meaningless. For example, just by rep you can probably tell Namur is a decent member because of his ridiculously high rep. However, the problem lies that new accounts can rep others however they want to so people can just fire up multiple accounts. It would be better if people required X amount of rep to rep someone else or have a dynamic system where one rep isn't linearly valued but depends on who repped you.

So it seems, a rep requirement isn't the wall that stops the barbarians. And the scammer could be someone here with a high reputation who just likes fucking with people. Maybe this guy has been here for years.

Maybe he's one of the GOG staff! He's an infiltrator sent by the global scamming cartel.

To be honest, I love all cheesecake equally! No discrimination here.
All people can do is just use their best judgement. Personally, if I were to do a contest it would be more along the line of people doing something such as making a custom lolcat or coming up with a short story rather than having a rep requirement. Or if I were to put in a rep requirement it would be along the lines of 20rep or something. *shrugs*
