Its more complicated with X-COM though. Normally mainstreaming, (or streamlining or whatever you want to call it) always results in an inferior product, even if it gets more people to play it. I'm not really willing to say that about the new XCOM. From what I can tell, its a great game. The simplifications all make a lot of sense beyond just appealing to a wider audience. The combat flows really well, and I love how much more cinematic it is. I cant say its inferior to the original. Its just a completely different game, with completely different gameplay. I decided I wasn't interested, and started keeping an eye on Xenonaughts instead. Xenonaughts just got added to steam by the way, but its early access. Its not the sort of game I'm willing to play an unfinished and unbalanced version of, especially if it means I have to pay to play that version.
I'm not sure how the new X-com compares to the original, but one thing I do know is that it's definitely one of the best strategy games on a console, the controls are perfectly suited to a console unlike other strategy games.
This is now turning into a thread about X-Com - my fault I'm afraid ! I haven't turned my nose up at the new X-Com completely, but it helps to know what it is and what it's not. If it had really been a faithful remake of the original I might have bought it immediately, but I'm still nostalgic for the original games and would like to try Apocalypse too, so my first priority is to get copies of the first three games, but not from Steam. The new game will have to wait.

Theoclymenus: This is now turning into a thread about X-Com -
Better than a thread about Wolfenstein 1-D.
That could probably do with a remake by the look of it :) Can't say I ever played it though. I loved Return to Castle Wolfenstein but I don't know whether it was just a better-looking, "streamlined" (or "mainstreamed") clone of Wolfenstein 1-D.

the_atm: Is it real? Honestly I can't tell if it's a joke or if it's real. I mean I have heard anything new lately so it seems fake but it's so cool that I want it to be real... Anybody?
Look up "demakes". For example, here's a blog post to get you started.
I thought it was real, it looked like a so cool idea.

Dreaming cost nothing I guess :(

The aliens. Most of the time.

Yeah, at point blank range. With the old games I thought it would be best to just have my squad taken out back and shot and just give some guns to kids and see how that panned out.
