Personally, I knew him as the developper of the webpy Python web framework.

This was my introduction to the MVC model.

Always a great sadness to see a talented mind pass on, especially at such a young age.

Is "Another one bites the dust" by Queen out of place?
Interesting fellow. I can't believe the sentence he was going to get for stealing scientific documents. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why it was such a grievous crime.

Well the government takes protecting the monopolies it grants seriously.

Prosecutor used the process abusively. They tend to be rewarded instead of punished for this so the sociopaths in this position do it frequently.
Murderers and rapists get less time than he could have gotten. I really don't understand.
My bad, I was busy with things those last couple of days and didn't keep afloat of things on the internet.

I just learned of his passing today.

My creating this thread was a jerk reaction when I became aware of his passing and did not find a thread in the first 2 pages.

I just thought he deserved a mention.

The plaintiff didn't even agree with the charges and proposed punishment, this was the DA taking matters into it's own hands because it could.

Also, given the extent of the 'damage' that was done to the plaintiff, the proposed punishment was crazy (35 years in jail and 1 million in damages).

This is supposed to be justice, not a lynch mob.

Hope that DA gets some comeuppance.
O'Reilly Press is giving away the materials used in the Open Government book to which Aaron Swartz contributed.

They want to honor him, stuff is out on Github, here's a short blurb:
