Magnitus: Dexterity is probably the most universally useful one (constitution being a close second, but I don't recall any class having constitution as a prime characteristic).
True - you either rely heavily on Strength or avoid situations which demand it, whereas everyone benefits from Dexterity. AD&D Psionicists have both Con and Wis for PR.

STR can usually be increased through spells or items. Think how sad it is to have 18(00) STR, 14 DEX and 14 CON and then find a Gauntlets of Ogre Strength.

Best answer ever. 3rd Ed sorcerers were interesting at first glance but the rules went out of their way to make them bland and impotent. Warlocks were a much better implementation of the concept.
