Worrying thing is I can think of at least 1 staffer who might do that...

I think the current system is fine as it is (pro-privacy, no saved credit card info etc..) but I wouldn't mind a Steam Guard like option to your e-mail. If GOG ever rises to become as large as Steam (or even more!) then I would definitely want a secondary authentication system, preferably something like Yubikey.
