HoneydewHuey: No problem :). I want to add one last thing about the Xbox version of Shenmue II. I played it on the Xbox 360 through backwards-compatibility, and many of the quick-time events are made much more difficult by the Xbox 360's mushy, inaccurate D-Pad. I can't speak for the original Xbox controller's d-pad, which may or may not be better.

A third-party controller might be an improvement. However, I did manage to finish it with a normal 360 controller. Some QTEs would be challenging with any controller, it's just that it's tricky to point in specific directions on the Xbox 360 d-pad which makes it worse than it should be, since you have to then repeat them a few times.

I hate to say something negative about one of my favorite games, but it's always helpful to be aware of the quirks ahead of time, and anyway it certainly wasn't a deal-breaker for me.
Ah well, I do have third-party controllers, Snakebyte and MadCatz, and I've encountered a bit of quirkiness with the D-pad in other games, but definitely not something that breaks gameplay, so it looks good.
I may be one of the lone people who say this, but I thought the second game was pretty terrible by comparison to the first. As a matter of fact, the only part of the game that I actually liked was the 1st chapter... Chapter 2 & 3 were atrocious. You have that fat dude chasing you the entire 2nd chapter & Ryo is scared shitless of him.... yet he wants to fight Lan Di who is like a thousand times better of a fighter than him... yep that makes sense. Then all you do in the 3rd chapter is walk (not run) through a forest talking to Shenhua for roughly 3 LONG HOURS (at least it felt like it). I honestly don't see why some people feel it is a superior game. That being said... I'm just not sure if the third game would really live up to anybody's expectations. It has been what... 11 years now? I think it is finally time to just let the series rest in peace.
Well, modern SEGA is a pc friendly publisher, they have the total war series under thier belt, made the (terrible) DC ports that came out last year, released tons of old mega drive and sega cd games, Fottball Manager is a huge success on PC, and let's not forget the excellent port of Sonic Generations and Sonic 4 EP 1. Which came out only months ago. They published Alpha Protocol as well, and have binary domain coming up.

The test for Shenmue is Jet set radio HD though, if it's a success on pc (which I honestly think it will be) then we'll get a pc port of Shenmue HD.

There's a caveat though, it'll probably be steam only. So the best thing is this, if you hate steam at least buy JSR HD on steam and show sega that Shenmue HD on pc is very much viable. Let sega port Shenmue to the pc, then request GoG sign them. Once the HD ports pop up here, your wish is granted and buy them.

If this is too hard to do, then just mail sega stating your interest in SHenmue HD for pc.

It's a given that GoG will sign sega anyway, since they have a big range of titles that fit perfectly into the good old games category. When will they?? We'll never know.

Yeah, if Sega was up for it, I'm sure GOG would sign them. They really are a good fit for the site.

I am looking forward to Jet Set Radio HD - I never played the original but it looks very cool.

If they released Shenmue on GOG after releasing on Steam, I'd probably be willing to buy it again simply because I'm such a big Shenmue fan and it's one of the few game series I want to play over and over again and just do all the fights, find all the extra goodies, etc. (Most games I play through once and don't return to them, even if I really liked the game. Just too many good games out there!)

(Edited because I saw that the Cibo Matto song was in JSR Future, not the first one, so my comment that I like Cibo Matto was irrelevant. Oops.)

Sega thinks charging $5 for a single Genesis game is good business practice.

Forget about them ever being here. At least until they stop depending on revenue from Sonic games.

The first part of Shenmue 2 was great. I agree that the last part with Shenhua was not the greatest. The story in the middle part was a little silly, but I still liked the stealth section and some other aspects of it. The cage fighting part was cool. There were definitely issues in Shenmue 2 but I still think of it as quite good.

I think for me it helps that the first one I played was Shenmue 2, so it was my first 'Shenmue experience'. Maybe if I'd done it the other way around I would have a weaker opinion of the second one.

I suspect you're right that die-hard Shenmue fans would probably be disappointed with a third game regardless of how it's executed, because the game would inevitably be very different with gameplay trends having changed so much. Honestly, even if the gameplay was less enjoyable to me, it would be great to have closure on the story. Heck, I'd be content if they released some kind of point-and-click adventure or graphic novel or something, but I know most wouldn't like that and I doubt Sega and/or YS would want to do that.

I think you're right that regardless of what they did with it it'd be nearly impossible to live up to expectations. I guarantee I'd still buy it though, damn reviews to hell :-).
