I'd be really interested to know how Holmes and John are going to get out of that pickle...but then again, this is Moffat we're talking about, and he's likely going to pull yet another crazy rabbit out of his hat to get them out of it, Eleventh Doctor-style. (I do like the way Moriarty echoes John Simm's portrayal of The Master.)

From what I've heard, they're going to be tackling The Hound of the Baskervilles, Irene Adler (as well as Sherlock's sexuality) and Reichenbach Falls. It really looks like Moffat and Mark Gatiss are firing on all cylinders with this show.

Oh man, awesome news, I thought it got scrapped. To everyone - watch it if you haven't already, and their version of Holmes will become the "true" one in your head.

As for the Hollywood Sherlocks, I watched the first one and quite enjoyed it. I don't usually mind taking a general concept of a well-known character and reinventing it. In the movie he was basically Tony Stark, and I'm not sick of this sort of character just yet, so it's all good.
I don't think I'll be gracing the cinemas for this one, though, tickets are relatively expensive as hell here. :)

I am not a big fan of Holmes I merely read it all. And comparing the film to the writing just leaves me with a caricature image of Holmes.
Thing is, if you regarded the "first movie as a decent popcorn action film with token detective elements in it" then you will be surprised to see that the second one is just a mediocre iteration with less detective stuff in it and much more and bigger guns and explosions and slow-mo and Holmes going kung-fu on baddies; I wouldn't mind if he did some English gentleman boxing, sipping his tea.

It was really good. Better than the first slightly in my opinion.

The pacing wasn't very good, it was a bit too fast and inconsistent. And then the last 30 minutes came and it was amazing. Good movie, excellent final act.

My wife and I saw Young Adult, Sherlock Holmes, and The Girl with... over four days starting late last week. I'd have to say I enjoyed all 3 for different reasons.

Young Adult is a really dark movie and I thought Charlize Theron did a nice job depicting a really clueless young adult. I liked it but it's not for anyone who wants a Hollywood ending...

I've read the Millennium trilogy but have not seen the original movies (so I can't compare the movies). I have read that a lot of people preferred the original movies but I have to say I thought the American version was pretty true to the book. We enjoyed it and thought it was a pretty interesting movie.

I'll second (or third?) the idea that the third act of the Sherlock Holmes movie was very good. I also liked the character of Moriarty (I know the actor from his work in Mad Men). I thought the invention of the "urban camouflage" was hysterical. The early death was curious and really didn't add anything to the movie. Overall, I thought the movie was about what I was expecting (no academy award noms but generally enjoyable). The one thing I didn't like was the slow motion cinematography (distracting and annoying).

Well, according to the Wikipedia entry, they will make a third movie.

And I can promise that no matter what I will watch it when it comes. When it concerns watching movies in the cinema, I rarely do, barely doing so not more than 3 or 4 times a year, and usually related to these characters or universe: Star Wars, James Bond, Indiana Jones, Tintin, Sherlock Holmes, LotR, etc.

Did they make a new Indiana Jones? I thought the last movie was Last Crusade.

They did 3 years ago: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Definitely not as good as the first three (my wife even hated the Alien part), but I guess as long as it is Indiana Jones I'll still watch.

Like I said, I thought the last movie was Last Crusade. God, I mean, I don't know what they'd do if they made a new movie, with all of the crap coming out now. Could you imagine what would happen if they made new Star Wars movies?

The last movie, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, was bad, and yet I still enjoyed it. Yes, I am that biased and brainwashed :-D
