I applause you for the great work you have done here at gog.com site. I personally own several games bought here on your site but I wonder if you could answer me this little question and maybe fulfill a dream :) WOuld it be possible to get permission from Infogrames and publish their 1999 game Silver that would work on Windows 7? I bought this game a long time ago on CDs but it is not possible to be played on newer systems.

it does still work on windows 7, took me some time to figure it out though.
turned out i had to mount the second cd when trying to run.

first download the silver patches torrent (just google for it)
mount/insert cd 1 and install it to c:\silver or whatever (it might not like program files x86\)
then when installed, mount/insert cd 2. then copy the silver.exe patch over your original file.
the game would now be able to run, but possibly with some graphic problems.
so then you may need to install additional patches depending on your graphic card and/or change compability mode.

that's all.

I do not think the game runs well on WIndows 7 :( I have NVidia GeFOrce GTX 5600 Ti graphic card and the graphic issues make the game unplayable :(

it does work well on windows 7 64 bit. i have a nvidia g210, you do need to use the correct crack and the correct patch . some crack/patch might make you hear the sound but you get no graphics at all. it takes some fiddling. try the geforce patch. i dont have the files ready else i could tell you which ones but it might also differ on which type of card you have.

Could you please describe how you exactly did it? Maybe even with patch links? I tried everything I could fin via google and nothing helped, either the game graphics is corrupted or the game doesnt start at all. Thanks :)

been awhile so i forgot how i did it, should have written it down better.

go to piratebay, tick games on , search on silver
look at this torrent: Silver_(1999)_-_NodScene (there is a difference between the cracks and patches between uk/us versions) so try your version else get this.

mount the first cd, select setup to install and install it to c:\silver
i dunno if you can skip the directxmedia and directx6 but i installed it anyway.

download just the patch. and copy that over your original installed one in c:\silver.

mount the second cd else if you mount the first cd the game will load but you wont see any graphics, you just hear sound. you will probably get some distorted graphics, which makes the game still playable but it isnt pretty offcourse.

by accident i managed to figure out that now when you copy anything to any drive or folder (doesnt matter what as long as you start silver while its still copying) it will work with normal graphics.

anyway, go to c:\silver\ make a notepad document and call it silver.bat
put in this text:
taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
silver.exe
start explorer.exe

save it, start that batch file and pray it will work.

I'm afraid the torrent does not work and I cannot find the patch anywhere else :(

Hello. I've literally just made an account to post on this like right now.
Anyway, A couple years ago I got a working version of Silver going for my Home PC (XP) But it always froze in Metalon at the end of the game, in the same place, very odd.

So now I'm on a Win7 laptop. And I'm getting Silver on this again, and I've tried downloading the Silver XP/vista Crack but there are no seeders, and if there is then they aren't online. So yeah. is there any other place I can get the Crack, as I don't actually need to download the game I've already got that going on the Nodscene Torrent.

I bought this game back in 1999 (I got the demo in a PC game mag too xD) And I NEED to play it again I realise that this all of this was posted a while back but still. you gotta understand how much I need to play this game again

(I know crack discussions are generally not allowed in GOG, but this doesn't appear to be an actual crack, but a compatibility fix for an old game.)

I think I found some Silver fix from ed2k (Emule) network a couple of months ago. It is called "Silver Infogrames Pc Game Fix Patch For Newer Pcs.rar" (about 3.85MB in size), should be found by using the Emule internal search engine.

I haven't tried it with my Silver yet and I usually don't want to download any unofficial cracks/fixes from p2p networks (virus warning), but at least MS Essentials is not complaining about it.

So to me it doesn't appear to be an actual "crack", but some utilities, patches and replacement files to make it work better on various parts of the game.

Is this what you are looking for, or is there some other Silver XP/Vista "crack"/fix around? If so, look for it in the Emule network. If you are unable to obtain it, send a private message to me.


Come to think of it, maybe I'll try myself later today how well it runs on Win7 64bit, if I remember...
