Stalker is f**king scary. When I first encountered this mutant in a dark tunnel, it started attacking me with it's mind or something, I couldn't fight back. It wouldn't let me. It slowly came closer and closer while I was helpless. So the first second I could, I ran away as fast as I could back to the starting area of the game, saved then quit because that sh*t was scary. So all you people into horror should check this game out too. It is not just for people who like first person shooters.

Bodkin: Bethesda bought the IP, that's why they are working on something else.
That's already been debunked.

You can fight it. Focus on the sounds he makes, when he's quiet, turn towards him and fire with everything you've got. While he's making the sounds, make sure you're covered by some metal or wooden stuff, and your view turned away from him.

Anyways, the last several hours I've played have constantly been in total darkness (in-game darkness)... it makes the game a lot more scarier and immersive.
By the way, am I the only one who always turns off music when playing STALKER? Sounds of it's world just seem far more scarier...

There is music in STALKER (in the usual meaning of the word)? I'm playing with Complete installed, I haven't noticed any music playing.

Well I've got no idea, I have turned off :D

There is, but it only plays at a few areas. Yantar is one of them that I can remember.
The atmosphere is freaking scary!

EDIT: Crying like a scared, little girl... what the hell is going on!?

EDIT2: I'm in this lab right now, boxes and other junk is flying everywhere. :/

the thing about Call of Pripyat is that it's more of an epilog than anything else.

it's still probably the best entry since it's more cohesive than the other two, but with most of it's events being directly scripted and the fact that it's only got 3 maps makes it far smaller / shorter than it's predecessors.
Stalker SoC... It's the way shooters should be.
Only played SoC, but loved it. Loved it.
I really need to get back around to the STALKER games. I started Shadow of Chernobyl and got as far as turning off the first (mini) Brain Scorcher in that underground lab (X16). After that I went back to the Bar area and stopped there, my next objective being to head to the Army Warehouses.

After that I ended up changing to another game, and another game, and so on. Not even installed Clear Sky or Call of Pripyat, even though I own them both.
I recently started Clear Sky with the Complete mod installed, Just wiped out the bandits with the free-stalker faction. I did it solo with ease using a suped-up AK-74 spent maybe 10k on upgrades.

kavazovangel: Got to the first bridge that was home to a few military soldiers. Didn't like the thought of paying to pass, so I started shooting at them. All goes well, a minute or two of shooting... and then I killed what I thought was the last one of them. Few seconds later, I hear more gunshots. It seems like the guys separated because at the same time they were being attacked by three bandits.

The bandits killed the two remaining military soldiers, and started shooting at me. I killed them, but barely managed to stay alive... when several seconds later, just after reloading my pistol, I was attacked by a pack of mutated dogs and eaten alive.

So, just another day being entertained by the awesome randomness of the game. Wish more shooters did this, and did less heavy scripting (talking about you, COD).

(just wanted to share this)

WTF: Yeah it's great but not random enough if you ask me. For example in Garbage the stalker camp is ALWAYS attacked from the back by bandits, every time you pass by. On the way to Bar there are ALWAYS packs of wild dogs. In Rostok there are ALWAYS mercs on the roof of that devastated building on the way to Yantar, etc. I mean after you deal with all of those there should be some more variety and not always the same events. It gets boring after passing by for the n-th time.

However the game is fantastic. Real shame about STALKER 2...
Yeah, that's the only problem with Shadow of Chernobyl (apart from the bugs, of course). It was actually a pretty static game. CS was easily the most dynamic of the three, but also the most broken. And CoP had a lot of free-roaming NPCs and emergent situations, but tended to lean towards the easy side of things.

Perhaps the Complete mods changed a lot. I played all three STALKER games on vanilla. Whenever I get my new computer, I'll try out Complete. In my opinion, STALKER is the best FPS series of this generation, and one of the best of all time.

Can you actually wipe out factions for good now? With the mod I mean?
Does Ranking matter in any way? And, about the side missions, are they missions related to the story in the Zone, or just randomly generated tasks with no meaning at all?

EDIT: I'm talking about missions like "Find X artifact" or "Kill X Stalker"... can you complete all? And when you complete one, will it stay complete, or will a random replacement for it pop up (thus making those side missions pointless since they cannot be completed)?
