It's always fun to see some songs rise back to fame when they are featured in a video game, no? Just look at Fallout 3 and those old songs in that game :D

Anyway, tell me other examples of such phenomenon, and I'll pick a random poster in this thread and give him/her a copy of Home (steam key). If you don't want it, tell it in the post, thanks.

It didn't really bring them back to fame but Carmageddon 2 did a nice job bringing back 4 Iron Maiden classics for the game. And I'm not in but I shouldn't be anyway, it didn't actually ressurect the songs.
I bought that Indy Gala bundle too so I'll pass on the comp (cheers anyway - wonder what the last mystery game will be! 'citing!)

I was going to say though that I think the earliest examples of songs in games was when the Bitmap Brothers used Bomb the Bass - Megablast in Xenon 2 and Betty Boo - Doing the Doo in Magic Pockets both on the Amiga, they weren't being brought back as they were quite current at the time, pioneering all the same

And as it's early in the thread I'll also point out the obvious and say GTA: Vice City and San Andreas just to get it out the way

AND thanks to our good friends at CD Projekt Red for introducing me to 'Bullets' by Archive from the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer - been listening to it loads ever since! (it was on a 2009 album so I guess that's a bring back)

Not in. But I've always been curious about Edith Piaf's "la goualante du pauvre jean" featuring as a sound file somewhere in No One Lives Forever. It isn't heard anywhere in the game, and seems completely random there. But it's a very cool song (Piaf is great) and I love the fact that it's mysteriously present there.

Plus the NOLF songs (the title song and the ones included in the bonus music CD) are completely great.
I shall opt out of the give away as i already have Home :D

I really liked the Phil Collins concert cutscene with 'In the air tonight' in GTA vice city stories.

The David Bowie songs in Omikron: the nomad soul we're good too, they were also cutscenes within the actual game with him (as a member of the in universe band 'the dreamers') playing in various bars.

I really like it when they're done like this.

In terms of credits music, 'M4' by the Faunts in the Mass Effect 1 credits got me interested in them. I also got interested in Saliva after hearing 'After Me' in the credits for The Thing videogame.
SNES Rock 'n Roll Racing ...
Paranoid, Highway Star, Bad to the Bone .... ;p

Might've been a placeholder. If you know Alpha Protocol, at the ending you leave on a boat and one of a couple of different songs play. One that isn't implemented but exists in the game files is Lonely Island's "I'm On A Boat" xD.

How could I forget the GTA series! Ahhhh, I'm so stupid. I think those take the cake for this whole thread. And no I'm still not in, I just had to come back and chime in on this gentelman's choice.

I was thinking maybe they intended it to be heard in a bar or on a radio somewhere for atmosphere but it got cut for some reason...

Argh, don't even remind me of that. It bothers me so much when I see "Recent Game X!!!" type comments on Youtube vids for classic songs.

Also, not in, +1 for the giveaway. :)

Come on. Louis Armstrong and the Ink Spots would be NOTHING without Fallout !!

Also did that Duke Ellington guy write other soundtracks besides Mafia ?
I agree, I've found some great music through video games.

Most recently I was playing BioShock 2 and found some great oldies that I fell in love with. Just to name a few: Doggie In The Window by Patti Page, Ten Cents a Dance by Ruth Etting, and Here Comes The Bogey Man by Henry Hall. I had never heard of these prior to this game, and I fell in love at first listen.
Homeworld has a really groovy YES song over the end credits. It better have been groovy; that game was a bitch to win. Fun, but hard.
Fallout 2's opening "Kiss to Build a Dream On" bit is my favorite.

For something more recent, I love how Far Cry 3 used a pop song from 5 years ago to instantly portray it's characters as rich douchebags,
Elite is responsible for putting The Blue Danube in my mind. Every time I hear it, I'm reminded of station docking.
